He is a very good bowler. I like him. He bowls good and gives less runs.

Agree to Fazal. He has not done enough to get a recall. But again, I don't see him getting into the 14 given that aftab is fit. but aftab might create an opening for him, and in that case will see some classy batting style by alok (for about 10 minutes).

Either selectors are trying their luck or may be they see something in him that we don't see.

Good luck... as much as I want him to do well, I think he will disappoint us once again... however, it will be great if he can come back to form this time... just the right timing before world cup 2007

I remember a TV interview of Hannan Sarkar few months back. He was saying that players like him and alok are having difficulties to get over their failures and become productive scorers again. But the current CB coaching scheme has no arrangements to train struggling players to recover.

This is a preliminary squad. There is no guarantee that he will be in the final 14.

Recall floppity flop Alok... based on WHAT? League performance? What performance? Pick Alok, leaving out Al Shahriar, who was far more consistent...
A dumb decision..

Billah, would you agree that, not factoring in form, Alok is a more complete batsman than Rokon?

Choudhury saab: Have you seen Alok play? The defensive shots are textbook, the cuts are late and precise, he even dares to pad up deliveries outside leg.
Compare that with Rana's strokeplay. Some are ugly, even bizarre. I remember once, Gavaskar was just completely out of words describing Rana's stance. But Rana gets runs and wickets, remember his 2 back-to-back MOM against Zimbabwe, after we fell behind 2-0. He gave us our first ODI series.
Having said that, Alok doesn't get runs, does not get wickets (sans the hat-trick). He only gets picked for the ever-significant spots (4th to 6th) and he disappoints us. I would have called Alok a complete batsman if he had the stats to prove it.
What I am trying to say is getting the runs is the most essential component of a complete batsman, no matter how ugly his style is. If Alok gave us a fifty every other match, who would have cared about his technique and style? No one!
In conclusion, Alok is missing the most essential component of a complete batsman, and that is "Runs". Therefore, he is not one.

you can say they are successful batsman, not complete batsman. Just like if you don't score runs, you can't be a complete batsman, same thing can be said about technique. If you don't have proper technique, you can't be a complete batsman.

So, which one would you prefer... no runs with technique or runs with no grammer

Ar koto din mal mosholla nai khali technique ar talent dhuey dhuey pani khawa jai?
When do we realize, that for national team, end result (i.e. runs) and current form (of the player) should be the only criteria for the selection. Otherwise the current treand will continue.

I don't see any reason to pick Alok now. He is not performing well enough to get a recall.

we need succesful batsman not technically correct batsman. Shehwag/Jaysuria are not technically correct but they have triple centuries. I consider them complete batsman. Man it is after all runs that count whether you are technically correct or not become irrelavent.

Just like I said... they are good batsman and I would pick them in my team any given day but they are not a complete batsman... when I say a complete batsman, I picture someone like Sachin, Lara or even Ponting.
