Saqibul wrecks Pakistan
ICC half time match report..
Quote:
Group A, Nondescripts Cricket Club, Colombo, Bangladesh v Pakistan. Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field.
Pakistan 170 (43.1 overs).
Bangladesh left-arm spinner Saqibul Hasan wrecked Pakistan's top-order to spearhead his side's push for a Super League place on Wednesday.
He took 4-34 to derail a promising beginning by the defending champions as they slipped from 66-0 to be 170 all out after being put into bat.
And that gave Bangladesh a golden chance of recording a victory that would all but confirm their place in the quarter-finals for the first time in their history.
Sakib bowled superbly dismissing the first four batsmen in the order but Pakistan will be disappointed to have folded in the way they did after Nasir Jamshaid (37) and Ali Khan (20) added 66 in brisk time for the first wicket.
They took full toll of Bangladesh's opening bowlers Dollar Mahmud and Kazi Kamrul Islam but the introduction of spin saw the whole picture change.
Four left-armers were used by Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim - Sakib, Nabil Samad Chowdhury, Md. Sohrawardi and Mehrab Hossain and between them the quartet tied the Pakistan batsmen in knots.
Nabil took 1-30, Sohrawardi captured 2-26 and Mehrab finished with 2-19.
The fact seven of the ten Pakistan wickets fell to catches was an illustration of a degree of carelessness on the part of the batting side
Apart from the openers, the only batsman to pass 20 was Ali Asad who made 38 before he was bowled by Mehrab Hossain.
With two points for a win, the victors in this match will move to four points while the losers will be left on two points along with New Zealand. New Zealand play Pakistan in the last game for those two sides in the group stages.
Only two teams from each group can progress to the Super League quarter-final. The other side in this group are Uganda, who have lost both their matches so far, against Pakistan and New Zealand.

Martin, are these pitches low scoring ones? Perhaps your man on the ground can include pitch conditions in his reports.
BD has now played two matches where batsmen on both sides made heavy weather of putting up or chasing totals. Would be neat to know if it's the bowling or the pitch.
Thanks.

I remember Herath telling us that even the club-level grounds and pitches in SL are very well-prepared. Based on that I had the assumption that we'll have some high-scoring games. It certainly doesn't appear that way from BD's last 2 games. Hopefully the CI reporter will fill us in about this.

I just asked our man out there and he said it was more to do with poor batting than the pitches. "They are on the slow side, but batsmen have tended to give their wickets away."
He promises to include more information about conditions from now on!

so it was a case of the batsmen throwing away their wickets. 4 dropped catches during the BD innings! things could have been much worse for us. the batsmen need to click and start producing if we hope to go beyond the quarterfinals.

I am confuse to see the picture of Saqib.
Is he under 19? I am confused to see his picture. next line is my opinion..
If he is not..then why we are trying to take pride upon winning? is this a good strategy? can we improve by hiding the age?...
just confirm me someone that saqib is under-19. the i will feel good.

the report would be appropriate as this title "Bulletin-Pak view".
when will we get equal treatment from CI? I saw losing does not get one. now I see even winning does not get one!!

It was a fair match report. Unless you expect Cricinfo to say "BD is gr8, others are l0s3rs" everytime, then there should be no reason to whine after reading this match report. In fact, you are not even qualified to judge the match report, since you neither watched the match live nor listened to/read ball by ball commentary.

yes, you are right here.
Did you watch it live or listened to/read ball by ball commentary? If yes, how? please let me know, unless you were in the field to watch match live.

If you have not watched/followed ball by commentary the match either, which I assume. Then how do you judge the report "fair" by yourself?
seems to me you have your opinion, I have mine, lay with it.

Guys.........instead of arguing with each other about the fairness of the report, I think we should give Martin W a big applause for the report by his agent at the ground. Thanks Mate.

IMO, "innocent until proven guilty" should be followed when you are judging something based on speculation.
I don't know why it sounded Pak biased to you. If Pak fielders indeed dropped four catches and some of their batsmen got out by playing rash shot, then there's nothing wrong in mentioning these things. I've never seen Cricinfo or any other website/newspaper lying about dropped catches in match reports. And it didn't seem that they didn't give credit where it was due.

The team’s assistant coach Nazmul Abedeen Fahim said Shakib’s bowling changed the match.
“He is a very intelligent bowler. For the spinners, the normal tendency on batting wickets is to bowl flat and quicker but he held his deliveries back a bit today and that did the trick. He made it easier for the other bowlers.”

As mod:
We need to get out of this witch hunt mode. Paranaoia leads to isolation. I agree with Spitfire in that in the absence of direct info otherwise, give benefit of doubt to the journalists.
And full kudos to Martin to try and keep us in the loop. You don't see Sports Illustrated editor going to a NFL forum and posting feedback.
