Comparison between Streak and Walsh- Tests

This is an analysis that is strictly for the BD pace bowling department since both coaches are former fast bowlers. I have eliminated all the other bowlers (Sarkar, et al). In total there were 10 different bowlers used during the period:

1. Rubel Hossain
2. Shafiul Islam
3. Taskin Ahmed
4. Mustafizur Rahman
5. Kamrul Islam Rabbi
6. Subashish Roy
7. Shahadat Hossain
8. Robiul Islam
9. Al-Amin Hossain
10. Mohammad Shahid

Heath Streak
Streak's coaching stint went from May 2014 to July 2016. There were 7 pace bowlers who featured in tests. The most successful bowler was Shafiul Islam, who took 7 wickets at an impressive average of 27.00. In terms of average Mustafizur Rahman was the most successful, going at 14.50 for each wicket. The mean average per wicket for a pace bowler in this period was 44.39.
There was also discipline in the area of tight lines and lengths; this is indicated in the average economy rate: 2.84




Courtney Walsh
Walsh took over from August 2016 to present, under current leadership, the number of pace bowlers dropped to 6. Not a significant drop in the grand scheme of things, but there were new bowlers introduced and some from the Streak period being permanently discarded: Shahadat Hossain, Robiul Islam, Al-Amin Hossain, and Mohammad Shahid. With the lack of experience in his armory, even a blind person can predict the demise of the pace bowling department. What followed was a farce. The bowlers were ineffective and toothless.
Let me give the mean average per wicket: 85.09 per wicket. It is almost twice than what was attained in the Streak era. Dismal and unacceptable. If the average per wicket was a disappointment, then there's more disappointment.
The average economy rate is hovering close to 4 runs an over: 3.91. And they picked up a wicket every 127 balls in comparison with Streak's troupe (94 balls). That's over 21 overs for fast bowlers to get a wicket; almost Rubel-esque. Hard to buy a wicket with those stats. The most successful bowler in this period is Mustafizur Rahman: 22 wickets at 34.59 .



There were 3 bowlers that were coached by both Streak and Walsh: Rubel, Shafiul, and Mustafizur







So many calls to sack Walsh, and yet here were are...Walsh still there and the same cast of characters featuring in the show. BD needs a new bowling coach ASAP.

The pacers are having training camps before every series. They are being coached by Champaka Ramanayake alongside Walsh. So far, we haven't seen any positive results.

One thing Heath Streak did was train the pacers to bowl a tight line and length and put pressure on the batsmen to try something risky. Most of our pacers aren't talented enough to bring much swing to the ball and thus relied on restricting opposition.

Great thread aklemalp.

And Zura thats precisely why you need to do with our pacers. Give them a plan, practice, practice, practice, ensure they stick to the plan. And if they are struggling to enforce, go to the boundary and tell them again to stick to the plan like Streak used to.

Today we make fun of Taskin, Rubel etc. But there was once a time when Taskin bowled six yorkers in a row. They were going somewhere with Streak.

Yeah, but Taskin lost his pace though because he gained a bit of weight.

So what happened? People learn and grow.... Taskin forget and grow? May be taskin need to take Vitamin B-12, fatty acid, and ginkgo biloba to prevent memory loss.

There's a ceiling for everyone and to go beyond, they need to train a lot more in both physically and mentally. Taskin is just happy with what he has. He knows he will get back in the squad once Shafiul fails as we would rather go back to him than go for any of the younger pacers.

Bujlaam, player need to work harder to go beyond their ceiling.

But "...there was once a time when Taskin bowled six yorkers in a row.".

If he had already done that, in the past (and he is still young), it must be within his ceiling. He should have done that more often without working harder.... unless ofcourse he is not learning and progressing... he is un-learning/forgetting some good stuff that he showed he is capable of doing in the past.
