Tales of the ICC Champs...
Very interesting Article on the ICC champ team after 10 year who is doing what from that team...
Here is the link in Bangla
So what's your memory? I remember even though people started celebrating after the semi's I wasn't ready to do so before they become champions. Cause I was ready ready for the WC 4 years earlier but they failed so this time nothing less then a champion ship. And how can some one forget those two days...
I still remember my Aunt from village came to visit us (She passed away, May Allah give her peace) started praying for the team after watching my excitement even though she had no clue what cricket was...
Ahhh those where the days...

i remember, my mom was reading news the next day n telling me, many ppl passed out, when BD needed 1 run from 1 ball. few things comes in my mind when i think of that match, Pilot kisses his bat after that big six, the bowler got mud on his shirt n running toward SHANTO [last ball]....
SHANTO finishes it, n every 1 HUGS SHANTO, PILOT stays back,[felt bad 4 him, also no 1 was huging him on 1999 WC match VS paki]. SABER HOSSIEN runs. SHANTO says something like where u going. [i feel he told him that, i dont know y tho] then AKRAM N JAVED HI-5ing. n after that day when BTV news use to start, they use to show that SIX of PILOT.

i had more of the things to remember when Bd defeated scotland in the semi and reached the WC. I was in a class test and some of the guys were actually hearing radio in headphone while giving the test. When Bd won, there was a huge celebration and a procession from buet towards the TSC which I was part of .
For the final, I was hearing radio at home. I remembered the 6 pilot hit in the last over and I jumped like a chimp. Up till then it was almost sure Kenya was winning. The real good thing about that was Bd fought tooth and nail to win that match even though it was non consequential. Only thing at stake was pride and a case to prove against kenya.

Good thread akabir77 ...
An ordinary, forgettable day in Berkeley that would probably have faded into obscurity and be lost forever, is something I can still FEEL as though it happned just yesterday. I rememeber getting ready to head out to Half Moon Bay with my motorcycle buddies when my cousin Renata called and gave me the news. I shared her joy without meaning to because I am Bangladeshi and never wanted to be anything else. AK, Nannu bhai and Pilot would always have a soft place inside my heart.

A Layman
Test cricket for me has always been a layered novel that unfolds at its own pace and reveals the truth underneath, often about myself. An ODI is like a well knit short story with a beginning, a middle, and the end – and a 20/20 match is something akin to watching a crappy sitcom because there’s nothing better to veg-out to. I prefer novels to short stories, but then again, there’s always Haruki Murakami, and Jhumpa Lahiri’s Interpreter of Maladies. Never had much time to veg-out.
Having grown up in suburban DC and Paris, and later having spent the most of my life in the San Francisco Bay Area, I was happily preoccupied with other pastimes such as surfing, baseball and ice hockey. Cricket was slowly fading out of my life like a forgotten lover's kiss, until THE event of 1997 when my cousin Renata told me what just happened, and what was happening on the streets of Dhaka and every other place in Bangladesh. That unforgettable jolt resurrected a family tradition and I haven’t been able to turn away since. I am not a cricket expert and do not claim to be one. Like countless other Bangladeshis living and dying with the fate of our Tigers, I’m learning to love the game - perhaps a little too passionately. Like most other Bangladeshi Tiger fans, I too am exasperated with the lack of temperament and consistency that prevent our cricketers from becoming the best they can be in both forms of the game, and stagnates the development of our young cricket culture at this high level.

Renata lives in NYC now and I'm back in Dhaka, and T20 doesn't seem crappy to me anymore. If fact, I prefer its intense pressures to ODIs, and 3 hours are always better than 7 unless you're watching test cricket where the bowlers can attack until the cows comes home. No tedious "middle" overs in T20s either. Baseball-style best of 3, 5 and 7 in tournaments can take T20s to a higher level. Off topic ...
