Default Mashrafe's performance in pre-IPL matches

Mashrafe played in KKR's first practice match against Free State.I couldn't find a scorecard but I found a report and apparently Mash failed to pick up a wicket. He went for runs in his first and fourth over but kept his second and third over tight. Meanwhile Dada scored an unbeaten 61 while Agarkar and Lengi who will be competing for a place in the XI against Mash got two wickets each. KKR are to play another practice match against Free State and one match among themselves. I know it's early days but Mash has always struggled in South Africa, lets hope he can change that this time around.

This is the news report:

Mash gonna struggle in his batting in SA pitches. He just forgets his batting in bouncy pitches. This is gonna be big problem for him because to be regular in 1st XI he has to score quick runs. Otherwise Charl Langeveldt gonna win the battle and be picked in the XI instead of Mash.

If Mash is 100%, I have full confidence in him in his bowling...batting in SA pitches is gonna be the key....hope he does not start cross batted slogs when he looks so ugly.

Thanks for the link.

Notable parts: "Having reached Bloemfontein only on Monday evening, Sourav said he was “still jet-lagged.
...
Mashrafe Mortaza, making his maiden appearance in the Knight Riders colours, had two good (middle) overs, but went for runs in his first and fourth.
He landed with Sourav and, being a quick, needs more time to acclimatise."

Considering he was jet-legged, I think this was a net positive for Mashrafee.

According to Bdnews24, he got a wicket. His final figures were 1-33.
So, not too bad IMO.
Still jet lagged, new pitch, new condition but more importantly, he is bowling pace again after over a month break. Remember, he bowled spin in the last few games in DPL.

So, given the whole situation, i dont think he did too bad.But offcourse, there are massive room for improvement and he must show that in the next game.

When competition is stiff and very tough, you need to bring your A game right from the word go.
Wishing him all the best of luck in the next practise game.

Default Mashrafe off the mark!

Bangladesh pace spearhead Mashrafee bin Mortaza made his debut for Kolkata Knight Riders claiming 1-33 in his four-over spell during a warm-up game at Bloemfontein on Wednesday.

Kolkata Knight Riders reached the target with five balls to spare after restricting Free State to 152 as Sourav Ganguly hit a brisk unbeaten 61 and was well-supported by Cheteshwar Pujara, who also remained unbeaten on 66.

Bangladesh vice-captain Mashrafee was treated badly by the batsmen in his first and last over, but he had two good overs in the middle that made the bowling figures of the six-lakh-dollar-man more than satisfactory.

Ajit Agarkar and Charl Langeveldt fired alongside Mashrafee with each taking two wickets as Knight Riders restricted Free State, the home of former South African greats Hansie Cronje and Allan Donald, to a mere 152.

The next warm-up match is on Saturday, when the Knights will be playing amongst themselves. The third game is on Tuesday, once again against Free State.

The second edition of the Indian Premier League will begin on April 18 with Chennai Super Kings facing Mumbai Indians at Cape Town, South Africa.

Knight Riders will play their first match against Deccan Chargers the next day at Cape Town.

not bad....as long as he doesn't play badly enough to lose his place in the XI, i'm satisfied.

IPL is just a cash cow.

Default mash's batting ...

in the presumably seaming conditions of south africa, mash's batting may not be as effective as it would have been in the sub-continent.

hmmm still he needs to improve his performances. Kolkata Knight Riders have fast bowlers like Langeveldt (its going to be his home conditions), Ishant Sharma and also Ajit Agarkar to choose from. Although he was signed for $600,000, he still needs a perform well for a place in the starting XI.

moreover Mash is a Bangladeshi. that lessens his chances even compared to Dindas and/or dandas/ andaas

because only 4 foreign players might play. his main competitor will be langeveldt.
although ganguly has some strange affection for the bombay duck.

unless he performs very poorly in the warm-ups he will definitely get a chance in the opening matches.

Mash did alright to be honest, He gave 7 more run than a good spell. anything below 6.5/over considered to be good in T20, he went for 8.25

1/33 is not that bad in his first warm-up match. I wonder what are figures of Agarkar and Langa? They got 2 wkts each but I dont think they were very economical.

Mash will always struggle in his last over as he is so bad bowling in the death overs.

his problem is not death over..his problem is bowling with older balls..which in ODI is late in the innings so thats why he has problem at that time..in T20 you its only 20 overs..he shouldn't have much problem with that..having said that its T20 everybody gets butchered..so 1-33 is not bad specially bowling pace after almost a month

cannot wait! Mash will get enough games, Mash is good enough to consistently be picked for the starting 11, but the team will be rotated around becoz of the foreign rule etc etc....i think hell play at least more than half of the games

from wherever you got this news, it's not true. Mash picked up 1 wicket.

btw about his batting i wanna say that he played bad when he was playing for Bangladesh team in ODIs mostly. now he is playing for a good team in T20 where most of the times i guess, he's gonna get a good platform to bat on or there every ball meant to be hitted. so i think scenario would be diff this time. so let's hope for the best.

scenario will be different but application is still the same..if he continues to move back and tries to make room like he always does he's gonna get cleaned up...

Yup I realised that. The Indian media conveniently ignored the fact that Mash actually picked up a wicket.

KKR played another practice match among themselves yesterday (Monday). Sourav Ganguly XI beat Brendon McCullum XI. In the article I found not only was there mention of the bowler's performances but it does not even say who played on which team, very unprofessional journalism.
