NBA 2007-08 Season Thread
A little over 13 days to go. Probably going to be backing la Raptors again due to geographical ties, although I hardly miss a chance to diss them and point out how much they suck.
Still ruing missing an opportunity to get Vince Carter to sign my New Jersey Nets cap earlier today. Then again, will be backing the Raptors when I go to watch 'em play on Nov 2. Such a wicked bastard I am.
Who would you put your money on?

Spurs - Dallas - Phoenix. The usual suspects from the West.
Boston - Detroit - King James (by himself) - Miami (if the gamblers put enough money they will reach the finals - by hook or by crook). I feel Chicago missed a chance on Garnett.

East will be much more interesting and clearcut than you think. Cleveland and Miami may falter , Detroit may decline, Boston may disapoint. They are all above average and not much better than Chicago, Washington or NJ....
its anybody's game in the East.

Washington and NJ would be happy if they win their division. Heck if they stay above 500.

I don't know much about NJ, but don't under-estimate Washington in the east. If (there is a big IF though) key players are healthy, this team will surprise lots of people. This season they have significanly upgraded their reserves, therefore the top 5 will need to play less than before.
3rd year man 6' 11" Andrey Blatche ( straight from high school ) is deveping very well. This is his season to show his skills.
This will be Pecherov's (7') 1st season in NBA. But he is well known comodity in Europe. Alreay showing his merit in warmup games. Very versatile ( range, scoring and ball handling) and very good as a rebounder.
2nd round pick McGuire is already proving himslef a contributer in defence. Last night he had 6 block shots, Coaches are already saying he is NBa ready and will be a contributer (in some capacity) in this season.
1st rounder Nick Young has a very good long term potential. But may only contribute once in a while. he is very good offensive player, need to adjust to NBA defence though. May take a full season.
Danial and Songaila played very well together from end of last season. Last year Songaila was injured (at the begining of the innings). This year he is healthy and having a very good preseason so far.
Plus Arenas (starter), Jamison (starter) and Butler (starter) are all healthy now. They all were injured at the end of the season including the playoff games.
The only weak point is Haywwod at Center. However so far he is playing better than last few years.
It may be all hype, but so far what I am seeing (pre-season games) and what I am reading in local news-paper, this team is supposed to do much better than last season (when they stated very well but ended badly with 1st round play-off exit.
I expect Washington to win close to 50 games if the Starters are healthy.

I am not underestimating Washington. I haven't seen much about them. Specially the names you mentioned except the European center I don't think they will have any impact (would not be consistant - BD cricket team problem). Haywood should be better than last year. For 50 game winning season Gilbert needs to lightup the arena or else... no way. How old is Jamison? Don't expect him to play 75+ games. What is this testing the free agency deal going on with Gilbert? Unhappy players tend to be selfish and pad up their stats. Should make the playoffs, well may not depending how well Orlando does.

Chicago, Washington, Miami all winless. Durant looks good, Knicks gonna be a force in the east they'd be top 5 easy if they tried to play D like they did yesterday in the 4th Qtr. Isiah is a genius when it comes to the draft, He's finally got talent and depth on this team
The Celtics are serious too

Washington fans are having tough time with reality. They will win some because they have Arenas. His contract negotiation is the key. He will play like the GA we all saw in the past.
Surprise hornets. That southwest division is a tough tough place. No team in the East looks like can compete with the west leaders as of yet. Boston!!! Hmmm!! We'll see, the season is too long.

BC, lol, wait till they lose to clemson. They won'te even win their division let alone conference.
Celtic band wagon seems like getting a boast from the Media? King James can single handedly tear up celtics any time if he chooses to.

Aww.. I see quite a few Boston bashers over here. Thats fine. Its the mark of a good team. I dont need all my teams to go all the way. BC went up to #2. Thats more than enough for me. Im not too picky. Current Patriots are arguably one of the best teams in NFL history. The undefeated '72 dolphins had to play only 14 games, and only 1 of which against a side with a winning record. If Patriots go all the way, they will be THE best team in NFL history. Theyre more than halfway there. The Sox have a side which many people have already called one of the best in MLB history. At this point, all i can say is Bruins who?
Celtics are definitely not the best, not even close. But as long as theyre better than they were the last few years, Im more than happy.

Ok. Let me put this in quantitative terms. Pats face 10 teams with PCT's over .500. Dolphins faced one. 'Nuff said...
By the way, Ive got one more team to add to my list. The NE revolution soccer team just made it to the cup final Cmon, you guys can deny it all you want but theres no arguing the fact that Boston just had an absolutely astounding year in sports. No city has even come close to something like this...

Err...Not to sound cocky and all...but BOSTON STILL FLYING HIGH AT 7-0. Garnett leads the race to the MVP rankings...Which isnt necessarily good news considering how the season ended for the past 10 MVP's....But meh.....Ill take it anyway...

Theyve been playing Garnett way too much. The man isnt exactly young. That being said, not a bad start at all. Needless to say better than last year. I still have nightmares about that year

The Hawks are up and rising even though they are 3-7. They beat Dallas and Phoenix. By the end of the year, everyone will know about the dynamic duo of Joe Johnson and Josh Smith!!

Wizzard back to 500.
5th win in a row...and they are doing it without Agent Zero. NBA is a marathon not a sprint... so lets see how far they can go.
