Default Mpofu Vs. Mashrafee: Hand-Over-Ear Celebration

You guys probably noticed Chris Mpofu’s hand-cupped-to-ear celebration today. After taking every wicket, Mpofu cupped his hand over the ear as if he was trying to listen to the cheering of the crowd. It reminded me of French footballer Thierry Henry’s similar gesture in FIFA world cup. But the funny thing is—Mashrafee Mortaza replied back to Mpofuu. After taking Mpofu’s wicket- Mashrafee mocked Mpofu by doing the same thing—putting hand over the ear to listen the crowds cheer.

Here is a photo of the Mpofu vs. Mashrafee Celebration:

(sorry did not find a clear photo of the hand-over-ear)

this celebration is the more appropriate in football, particularly scoring a goal in the opposition's home ground. Its like saying 'cant hear u guys' in front of the stunned audiences...

dont know what mash is upto, but this is atleast better than Shoaib Akhter's 'flying plane' celebration and good to see zim coming out of the 'jongli tribal nritto' in the middle of the pitch

Thats nice. I was kinda pissed eventhough it was funny when Mpofu was doing it. Good thing Mashrafee gave it right back to him. I am happy Mashrafee is the one who got his wicket cuz I don't think any bowler other than maybe Shahadat has the guts to do such thing in our team.

It's not about guts. It's about replying. Yea in Mpofu's case it was the original meaning that was intended, but Mashrafee's act was just a response to it...a perfect way to reply. Coz I'm sure in Mashrafee's case, the crowd did cheer, and it's to mock Mpofu that unlike you, I've got my crowd. Good job Mashrafee.

You dont do that when you hear people cheer. As ialbd said, its like a form of "where did all the cheering go?"

I dont think it was the right reply, but at least he got the wicket!

Well guys if you look closely you will see mash's thumb is on the ear which mean he was doing the VENCHI not listening to the crowd.

Mpofu simply had some problems with his ear. Last night during shower some water got into his ear. Everytime he is trying to clear that out. When he got out in Mashrafe's ball, he simply put some water into Mashrafe's ear. - "Very un-sporty"..

Well there he is Mashrafe ...trying to say "Kaane pani dhukse"

Buddy...the last thing I wanna argue about is if Mashrafee knew about the dynamics of this symbol. I just thought I'ld justify what he did, and honestly I thought it was cool...and if that's unacceptable to you, you are welcome to start an andolon or mohashomabesh about it.

True!!
The situation becomes more clear if you see the video.
Fortunately our BC member, Omio, captured both Mpofy and Mashrafee in video with their hand-over-ear gesture. Here it is:

Why don't you take it just like" Oh, how sweet is the sound of falling of wicket!"
Although, it looks like areply.
In both cases, I liked it. Thanks to Mash.

Step aside members who are analyzing the correctness of the gesture.

Behind this gesture by Mashrafee, there is a very staisfying glimpse of a winning and competitive attitude that is slowly emerging in the BD team. I loved the gesture.

Yameen : Mashrafe is well ahead of Mpofu in the pic..and Mash is running.. So you cant say he's tiny comparing to Mpofu.
Mpofu is a bit taller..but Mash aint tiny comparing to him.
If you see a pic of them together standing tall..You would see.
