Default Malik a great Captain

This Shoaib doesn't tolerate fools

Cape Town: A lot of people within the media, the fans and even cricketers make a mistake of dismissing Shoaib Malik as yet player upon whom Pakistan captaincy has been thrust upon.
Take it from us, this young man is nobody's fool, and he doesn't tolerate stupidity either. In fact, he is as clever as they come. His repartee with journalists often leaves them not just dumbfounded but also searching for words.
Twenty five-year-old Malik reveals a maturity of a 35-year-old, and he never, ever bares his cards. He would have made an ideal poker player. Sample some of the stuff that was thrown at him and his answers:
Q: Shoaib, is this tournament a consolation for you after a very disappointing World Cup?
A: World Cup is history and that was not a tsunami or something. We have a very important semi-final tomorrow and you are asking me about World Cup.
Q: Pakistan had beaten New Zealand in the semi-final of the 1992 World Cup. Is that an inspiration for you?
A: Again that was past and it has no bearings here.
Q: Pakistan cricket has been rocked with several scandals in the recent past but here, we are seeing team spirit and unity. What is the reason?
A: But a couple of days ago, I heard you guys saying there was groupism in the team.
Q: There were reports of some players getting drunkā€¦ what's their status?
A: Why don't you go and ask the full story from those who told you this in the first place.
Q: Who would you prefer in the final, India or Australia ?
A: I think we have to win our semi-final first.
There you are. That's Shoaib Malik for you. Make your judgement.
He's a very clever captain I would say

As a captain I like him much better than what they had recently.

The good thing for him is most of the older players are either gone or about to be gone. That will help him establish his authority much further (as a captian).

Now about the interview above. Some answers were good, but for the other I get a feeling of cockyness... it may work out as long as PAK plays well... but if/when the stuble... this kind of reply may add fuel to fire.

But again overall: he is young ... he is bright.... he will learn and he will be much better.

It was a great decision to go for a young captain. He is doing a fantastic job. He still has a few things to learn though.

I am also impressed with Dhoni's captaincy. He seems to be responding well to pressure.

Shoaib Malik certainly has the potential to become a great captain, perhaps sooner than we think.

He is a dependable captain, Asharaful should take a page out of his book. Has a lot of cricketing smarts, able to adjust very quickly to a fast paced game. i am so happy to see that they have progressed to the final, and Inshallah, let's hope they do better in the future.
Both these young captains, Malik and Dhoni have done well and must be commended for their guts and effort.

Inzamam not welcome?

Pti, Karachi

Even as Pakistan Cricket Board chief Nasim Ashraf meets Inzamamul Haq to discuss his future, skipper Shoaib Malik reportedly does not want him back in the team which may become a crucial factor in deciding the former captain's fate. --[source]
