Al-Furqaan has almost got it right in his last post. Despite their obvious limitations, selectors dont have it easy either picking a BD Test squad. We hardly have any viable replacements for the like of Sir. Ashdafool. Also, in our context, it would be almost blasphemous to even ponder of dropping one of the country's most "experienced" and top run-getters in Test over rookies like Mominul or other names flying about here from trigger-happy fans. Some of the pundits here need to realize that there is a HUGE gulf between Test cricket and our picnic-styled NCL. These next generation of BD Bradmans coudn't even perform consistently at an U19 WC ( except, Anamul) and they are being advocated for TEST cricket! Do we not have such panache for destroying any buddying careers!

For the selectors, please stop using T20, ODI stats for Test cricket and vice verse as the main criterion...once and for all!

According to Isam vais article probable line up is:
1. Tamim
2.Kayes/ Nazimuddin
3. SN/. . . . . . . . .
4. . . . . . . . .
5.Mushy
6. Shakib
7. Riyad
8. Nasir
9. Enam/ Sunny
10.Rubel
11. Pacer

To me Kayes is not a good option for #2. If SN is not considered as #3 then he should be considered as opener. So my team would be:
1. Tamim
2.SN/Nazimuddin
3. Mominul
4. Naeem
5.Mushy
6. Shakib
7. Riyad
8. Nasir
9. Enam/ Sunny
10.Rubel
11. Shahadat

worry not, Ashraful voktos will come up with reasons to justify this selection (he wasn't given enough chances, dropped unfairly. same as ones ashraful uses) and then excuses to justify his guaranteed eventual failures (he was just unlucky)

Ashraful worshippers typical argument - we don't have anyone better. Well Ashraful averages 17 in test cricket in last 3 years.. I can guarantee that if given a consistent run every batsman no matter how crap he is can atleast average 20.

You want shahdat in test team? Look like you are looking forward to WI's white wash, and if you add Ash. Make that done.

Nafees, Junaid, Mahmudullah, Naeem Islam all average far better than him... and ofcourse we got Mushfiq, Tamim and Shakib are there...no place in top 7 or even top 8 for the failure known as Sir Ash.

[quote=simon;1596037]sorry to say but this is yet another pointless Ashraful thread.
Yes, it indeed is. Hence you should know, pointing so out is even more pointless.

Guys let's just wait and see what the actual Test squad is before we comment. Obviously Isam bhai knows more than we do about the squad makeup but its still not set in stone.

There was a comment from AK that Ash, Nazim, a a few new omers like Mominul, Shohag, Anamul might be seen in the test team....SJ might have his preferences basing on his observations and how he wants to utilize whom in the combination. A player can perform different if used at the right time and place by a coach, after all, they are aware of the current situation of a player much better than fans. Stats do form a baseline, but isn't surely the only thing considered to select a player.

Ashraful has over 200 caps because we really never had anyone better. Even for this WI series, unless the selectors make gutsy calls and draft Soumya, Anamul, and Mominul we are guaranteed to have at least one or two batsman who don't provide any advantage over having an Ashraful.

Secondly, I think some of the major sides also engage in a bit of this "optimistic selection" albeit not as regularly as we do. I remember during the 2010 England tour, when Eoin Morgan made his debut, the commies on TMS where saying that Morgan's selection was particularly under the microscope since he hadn't made "a mountain of first class runs" and was selected on his T20/ODI reputation of being a "game-maker".

West Indies have done that with Narine. Possibly with Bishoo as well. I think Ajantha Mendis got his start with Sri Lanka in similar unconventional fashion.
I am not not commenting on WHO they select. I am commenting on HOW the selection is made and judged, if this is true.
