Random Facts about Worcestershire...

Pronounced WOOS-tuhr-shuhr

In 1974 it was merged with the neighbouring county of Herefordshire to form the county of Hereford and Worcester; which was divided in 1998, re-establishing Worcestershire once more as an independent entity.

Their magazine gayishly is called WoW.

The county's northern commuter towns such as Redditch and Kidderminster have had an influx of the Black Country accent which has affected the accents of Bromsgrove and parts of Redditch and formed a new accent unique to those towns.

Peter Luff (C) is a member of parliament.

Vikram Solanki recently helped celebrate the opening of the newly refurbished clubhouse at Alvechurch and Hopwood Cricket Club. The extensive refurbishment that was part funded by a £10,000 Lottery grant and effected largely through the voluntary efforts of members which were unwearyingly coordinated by 2nd XI captain Andy Fisher. The refurbishments undertaken have given a much needed facelift to the clubhouse and include a new bar, windows, carpets and toilets making it a much more attractive venue for social functions. Club members, their families and local villagers turned out in numbers to see the result of months of work and to pose questions to Vikram. Go Vikram! Yay... More

Worchestershire starts there season a bit shaky. After a fantastic start, they had a middle order collapse and was restricted to 287 against Middlesex. And Middlesex was 12-1 at the end of the day.

I think that Shakib will remain in England after the English tour is finished. This should be a great experience for him to bat and bowl under English conditions, hope he will mature into a better batsman.

Sakib is still not performing with the bat. Still going for the slog shots. I feel that he will perform better in the WI where he performed brilliantly last year.

shakib thinks t20 is slogging, where he is not the best. he is a good stroke player, not slog hitter

Worcestershire wait on Shakib

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been forced to delay his arrival at Worcestershire.
The county were hoping Shakib would join up with them this week after the completion of the NatWest Series against England - in time for the final two Friends Provident t20 group matches with Warwickshire and Lancashire.
But the Bangladesh Cricket Board insisted the 23-year-old - ranked number two bowler in the ICC world rankings - remain with them for another week.
Injuries mean Shakib is required to play one-day internationals against Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands.
Worcestershire now hope Shakib - the first Bangladesh player to play county cricket - will be available for the LV= County Championship clash with Derbyshire starting on July 21.
