Our two SLA's will be ideal for Lords. Enamul bowling from the Nursery End turning the ball away from the bat "with the slope". Rafique bowling his "arm ball" from the pavillion end drifting into the batsmen , again taking advantage of the slope. I hope Dav tells this to Bashar.

OK, Rajin faced a total of 7 balls. This guy is really solid. The 30 n.o. against the no-hopers is helping his averages.

Well. I dint mean that England never played with 2 spinners. From the record of touring teams... no team player with 2 spinners.

my team for lords:

nafis iqbal, javed, bashar, ashraful, aftab, rahim, +pilot

mashrafi, rafiq, shahadat, munir

i selected the team strictly based on practice match performances. so far rahim proved himself to be a capable batsman and aftab is useful with ball as well, so the axe should fall on rajin. talha and baishha was useless with ball, so the choice is munir or enamul. i chose munir as there should be more help for seamers in that wicket.

Omar
Iqbal
Aftab
Bashar
Ashraful
Rahim
Mashud
Mashrafe
Rafique
Taposh
Shahadat

This is my team where Aftyab/ Ashraful both can bowl so 4 specialist bowler Afatb and Rafique and Ash all can bowl and Bashar, Ash,Javed Nafis, Mushfique all can bat well where we can also get extra wkt keeper

A wonderful combo

I will not discard Rajin that easily. By that argument alone Ash should not be included either. If anyone that needs to be dropped it is Aftab. He has a sorry average of 14 in Test. Maybe he is better suited for ODI. Rajin has a test avg of 28.65 and Ash has 25.23.
Dropping Rajin will be counter productive.

So my first 11 should be

1. Javed Omar
2. Nafees Iqbal
3. Habibul Bashar
4. Ashraful
5. Rajin
6. Rahim
7. Mashud
8. Rafique
9. Mashrafee
10. Tapash Baishya
11. Shahadat.

Inshallah, I will be at Lords for the 4 days and, if the match goes into the 5th day and if we are in the game, I will be there. I am not , however, particularly partial to writing mindless dribble !
Could not have agreed more I wish Dave/bashar does not get chewed up by the hype to take 3 pacers. Enamul is the specialist spinner. I see Rafique as "specialist" all-rounder.

Selection problems are,

which two out of Aftab, Rajin, Mushi?
which one of Taposh and Enamul?

all other 8 spots are obvious choice-not much explanation or identification needed.

With due respect to every BD player,
lets see some pick combinations,
1. Aftab, Mushi (after today's performance, he might have deserved it) and Enamul. (outside box: give it a shot for draw!)
2. Rajin, Mushi and Taposh (to make both sides happy!)
3. Aftab, Rajin and Taposh (classic: no brainer, even don't need any coach/captain for to pick this)

my obvious choice would be 1 at this moment. I see Aftab ahead of Rajin bcoz of his [Aftab] bowling. Aftab's bowling can be replaced with Taposh and we make room for Enamul.

Looks like a winning combination I'm ready to go with this team.

This is most likely the players that are gonna play the 1st Test at Lord's. Including batting order. (agree with spifire)

We need players who can hang in there in the middle. Rajin has proved time and again he can really hang in there, I remember his role in Pakistan series. If the team is 25 for 5, he is the kind of player who can turn things aroud little bit. But with his current form, he might as well sit down.

Rajin is out of form, we must go with the player in form and that's mushfiq.. also Rajin has not had any decent knocks in England including champions trophy last year.

Maybe England is not the place for Rajin ??

It would have been easier if we knew the English 11 before making our selections because we could select a team based on their strenghts and weaknesses. However, at the moment here's my selection for the first test (including batting order). I hope coach Dav Whatmore and the selection committee would look at all these suggestions posted by the fans.

1. Javed Omar
2. Nafees Iqbal
3. Khaled Masud
4. Mushfiqur Rahim
5. Habibul Bashar
6. Mohammad Ashraful
7. Aftab Ahmed
8. Mohammad Rafique
9. Mashrafe Mortaza
10. Enamul Haque Jr
11. Shahadat Hossain

Enamul Haque Jr is selected to be the trump card. The English are used to playing seamers in their conditions, so our seamers aren't guaranteed huge success. We could use Jr as an alternate to break big English partnerships. Aftab can serve as the relief bowler with his medium pace and also as a batsman.

The batting order looks bit different than usual because our typical problem is losing wickets early on, and then start struggling rest of the innings. By putting Masud and Rahim up in the order, we can establish an innings by not losing wickets, get the English bowlers tired, and then send our hard hitters (with higher strike rates) like Bashar, Ashraful, Aftab and Rafique.

It was very hard not to pick Rajin Saleh who's also an excellent fielder, and Tapash Baisya who's the workhorse of the team. Any substitutions should consider these two first. Depending on the performance of the 1st test, I'd also consider Shahriar Nafees and Anwar Hossain for the 2nd test.

LET'S GO FOR IT. With a little bit of planning and playing "smart" cricket, I believe we can upset the English.

If we have 3 pacers (Mash, Tapash, Rajib) we should have enough confidence in the fact that we wouldn't need a support pacer (aftab) for bowling issues. Since Aftab hasn't shown much in Test batting and in practice matches, he could be safely axed in favour of in-form Rahim. What we are doing is concentrating on Form, Pitch Backgound, Players' history to recover in emergency situations in the past. Rahim has proved these with his form with BD A in Zim, and in the practice matches. Rajin has a history of solid play (he came back in time during Zim tour of BD). There is more reasons to feel confident with Rajin than with Aftab in tests. So my final 11 will be:

1) Javed (should be axed in 2nd test if he shows the innings against British Univ was a fluke)
2) Nafis
3) Bashar
4) Rajin
5) Ashraful
6) Rahim
7) Pilot
8) Mashrafi
9) Rafiq
10) Tapash (Munir was expensive and Tapash has a good history. we are focusing not only on form but also on players ability proved in the past)
11) Rajib

i dont think we are at that stage where deciding our 11 men squad is going to be helpful by looking at the opponent's 11 men squad. england can do that but not us. we have to look at our game and how we play. we shouldnt base our strategy on how they play. we should go for our best shot.

For the first test. I look at it this way.

1. One of Aftab and Rajin plays
2. One of Taposh and Enamul plays
3. Talha, Shahriar Nafees and Munir are out for the time being
4. The remaining 9 are automatic for the first test

#1 and #2 are sort of related. If Aftab plays then it makes more sense to include Enamul, because with Aftab we have 3 pace bowlers of some sort. If Aftab bats well then this is the best combination for now. I am putting lots of "ifs". This gives us more variety by including Enamul. Even though this is England during early summer, we are stronger in spin than pace bowling. If Rajin plays then I guess Taposh has to play, otherwise we are one short in the pace department.

The other thing that I wish is our tail to wag as it most often does. Otherwise we are in big trouble.

Whoever plays in the final XI, I wish they don't give up without a decent fight. And I believe they won't.

Whatever the playing eleven is, it should be announced at least two days before the game.It will give young lads like Rajib and Mushfiq to prepare themselves ahead of time.

if our top guys do well...50 avg each, the tail will flop (i hope not)...

if the top flops, the tail will resist as if the best tail order in the world.

i hope both play well...it is this mentality we must pick up

Both orders can fail together, but rarely click together. It's true for all team.
