Default NEWS-VIEWS-PREP For Series Against WI

This is probably going to be the biggest event of BD Cricket in this year. This is a complete series with 3 test, 5 ODIs and 1 T20 against an ICC top 8 Team. Considering that they are the team just ahead of us in Ranking, this should prove where we stand. We have the home advantage and that should even out the difference between these two teams.

Expecting a good contest against WI in this series. WI players are quiet focused and have already started talking about the series immediately after winning the T20 WC beating Srilanka.

Are we taking it, that seriously? Our coach is on leave, as we hear that he is stopping whatever spin bowling practices the team planned. We aren't yet hearing, when the team will start practicing, the NCL doesn't look to be starting as planned on 14 oct. if we are caught un-aware by WI in this series, if we fail to compete in tests and ODIs against WI, we will surely have tough time justifying our progress that we all had been almost certain after the Asia Cup. So this series will also confirm if our Asia Cup performance was fluke or genuine.

And we shouldn't forget that the last time we visited WI while the WI players were on strike and we won convincingly against them. Many of us felt that we could have won it even if their players weren't on strike. It was said to be Gayle the only difference. Now they have shown in the final that they can win even a WC final without Gayle. The same guy (Sammy) who captained that team, will still be their captain. We have to win and compete in this series, if we want to earn any respect from the world, if we have to count our previous wins respectfully and if we want to get rid of that Minnow tag.

In that context, This is going to be the most important series after we received our test status. All the other series against g8 teams, we could cover up as learning process, but this series is more about proving our ability than just learning. Many are sitting out there watching, to justify their negative views on us and teams like Ireland and Sco, if not Afg, are waiting too, to extract maximum benefits & favors of ICC out of our bad performance in this series.

So this series is very very important for us to justify a lot and to prove a lot to every cricket fan, players, Journalists and administrators all over the cricketing world. A thrashing by WI in this series will throw us into the Dark ages once more. Do you see us being able to prove ourselves here?

Please do post any news and views you have or come across that might have an impact on this series.

Beshi kisui hobe na.

Amader nengta kore pitabe..just like WC T-20 te onno team der pitaise.

Get ready for war in Banglacricket!

PS - Zero expectation apart from a draw in one of the tests and if lucky, one win in ODI.

How much exactly did the players worked hard following the t20 world cup ? They only played two games for names sake and boom they were out of the tournament. Their poor showing in worldcup if meant anything that they need to work harder. Heck i even say this t20 wc was a good vacation for them, 5 star hotel, paradise and all. I feel so bad for shakib . He takes this whole team over his shoulder and you provide rest for the guys who did not do jack. He is playing constant cricket forever i can remember.

Playing against the reigning T20 world champs, BCB can lobby and arrange for an extra T20I match, if ICC permits, though I highly doubt it since almost every team has exhausted their limit of T20I per year before the world cup to prepare themselves.

Our best chance to be competitive in the series is to develop difficult wickets. Not one where there is a lot of turn, but where the ball doesnt come on to the bat, low bounce etc. Like the wickets we had against New Zealand. We stand a better chance in low scoring wickets, than high scoring ones.

Now if we try to be fair and sporting and try to make wickets with bounce, turn we ll be destroyed against a spirited West Indies full of confidence.

^^ Low, super turning, difficult pitch is a must.
You prepare anything sporty or batting friendly, we might see world records at will.
But then again, our batsman will make sure Narine becomes a Warne in this series.

Thats why we shouldnt make a turning track. Narine, Bishoo, Badree will destroy us.

Rather the ball shouldnt come on to the bat, there should be low bounce, and slight turn. Ideal for SLA's. Windies dont have the best footwork in the world. And they are relatively tall guys. So our SLA's can them plenty of trouble. There will be plenty of LBW's.

Making such wickets is very unsporting. But its our best chance of being competitive. But its not like West Indies will make turning tracks for us in West Indies. They will also develop bouncy wickets to suit their strengths and our weaknesses.

As usual, BD will have very poor preparation for this series. This is a stronger and different Windies team from a few years ago and after winning the 20/20 WC, they are all hyped up and found their confidence. I cannot blame your players for theirpoor performance because preparation for this series is very poor, unlike other countries, I blame management and coaches for poor motivation.

I thought Pybus would be the taskmaster we needed. Not liking what I'm hearing about him so far.

If things get sour with RP it may get sweeter for many BC-ites who wanted to see RM as HC even in 2007 after Dav Whatmore left. He is now more experienced and always willing to help Bangladesh Cricket. He was one of the coach present during recent Women Cricketer Hunt @ BCB HQ.

Expect nothing but a thrashing, won't be surprised if we lose every single match in all formats. There is not a single BD player who can hope to get in west indies top xi other than Shakib and maybe Tamim. The WI squad will possible look something like this -Gayle, Dwayne smith, Darren bravo, Samuels, Pollard, Dwayne bravo, Russell, Narine, Sammy, Roach, Rampaul with the likes of Fidel, Badree, Bishoo, Sarwan, Chanderpaul in the bench. Make no mistake about it, whatever the rankings say, if WI put their best xi on the park (like they did in wt20) they are FAR better than us. Even a WI team without Gayle beat us easily in test and odi's last year in BD.

Far better than us??? FAR better than many of the top teams !!! Their best 11 line up comprises of few of the bests of the world cricket specially in the shorter formats... Gayle, Smith, Samuels, Pollard,Bravo, Russel, Narine- all match winners... Don't know what's waiting for us

Would love to have Richard McCinnes as head coach of this team. He probably knows most of the boys too.

Training sessions has not even started, thanks to our great head coach who needs more vacations than the rest of the team combined! 45 days of paid vacations are not enough, that's why he does not even sign his contracts in 4 months...already completed more than 30 days of vacation...and by the time he gets back from 2 week hiberbation he will complete all 45 days worth...

An amazing coach indeed! Or should I say vacation coach as he wants the players to take vacations as well by shutting down spin bowling sessions?

You are right, that 11 is arguable the best in t20 and if they play to their potential one of the best in odi's as well. In tests they are not a top side but far better than our legends Kaedge and Mofees.

That's what really impressed me about the windies. Yesterday after winning, they were saying how long they have to go and they're preparing hard for the bangladesh series.
