Work in Progress and Pascal’s Wager – Bangladesh in 2010.
Abu Choudhury
2009 was the year that Bangladesh recorded their maiden test series victory against a higher ranked side. But as sweet as that victory was for players and fans alike, to some it will always be tainted by the fact that the tigers faced a second-string West Indies side. 2010 began with the promise of much sterner opposition for Bangladesh and while they failed to register any test victories in 2010, Shakib Al Hasan’s men have played enough good cricket to demonstrate that they are maturing as an international team. Abu Choudhury reviews Bangladesh cricket in 2010.

Good one
I liked it!
ashraful is the biggest dilemma in our cricket. the author was dead right in assessing ash's chances in the world cup and the hype surrounding him....
i support his views & assumptions

Thanks miraz bhai. Learned about Pascal's wager... interesting stuff!
Agree with 100% regarding ashraful, what we need now is a culture of performance based selection. Rewarding ashraful for his lack of performance does not make any sense...

Great article Abu!!
"But it is a left arm spinner whom I have selected as the player to watch in 2011. The wonderfully-named Suhrawadi Shuvo has only just embarked upon his international career, but a string of impressive performances against New Zealand and Zimbabwe in the latter half of 2010 has shown that he may well be the man to plug the gap left by that admirable old war horse, Mohammed Rafique. The left armer from Rajshahi is an athletic fielder and a handy batsman and has impressed in domestic cricket for a number of years now. 2011 could be the year he makes his mark on international cricket."
I agree 100%. Shuvo will not only prove to be better than Mohammad Rafique with both bat and ball, but will also give Shakib a run for his money as Bangladesh main strike bowler in Tests.
I think he can work on his batting and with Jamie Siddons at the helm, I'm sure he can make valuable contributions with the bat.
He is a stunning athlete on the field, he saves a lot of runs for Bangladesh on the outfield. He has the potential to be our Jonty Rhodes.
Bowling wise he didn't have the best of starts, but not many have in the past. I'm glad the management have been patient with him and given him the confidence and belief to excel at international level. He probably hasn't picked up enough wickets as he would've liked, but in due time I'm sure his average will come down. His economy rate is very good, so he justs needs to be patient, the wickets will come.
When he makes his Test debut this year. I think finally we will have 2 quality bowlers in our test team. Him and Shakib bowling in tandem will frighten the life out of batsmen and we can apply pressure from both ends and rip into batting sides. Only if we play 8 batsman and have Shuvo and Shakib bowling together for long periods in tandem that we will win a test match at home. Yes that's right, you heard it hear first folks.
'Boy Wonder' as I call him is going to be a big player for Bangladesh in the many years to come.
