US-India nuclear deal: ramifications for Bangladesh???

not being very well educated in the dynamics of the region beyond the extremely obvious, i'd like to be enlightened here.

any chance or even need of bangladesh getting some energy tech from the americans?

So, I'm right. here is the source that I recall.

BD having signed the CTBT has always been in the position that India is in now, i.e to freely trade in Nuclear materials and its technology(for peaceful purposes)

This treaty means a lot to India as it can now opens up Nuclear technology without having to sign the CTBT which it has been opposed from the '70s.

The ramifications to BD as far as I see is, the mega companies that will flood the Indian markets will have an eye on the BD market too and might want to venture into BD's market.

Nothing stops BD with a collaboration with any country in this field, unlike Pak or Isreal that would need a deal that India has now.

Nuclear is the way to go !!

This was the only way for US-Europe to get some IAEA monitoring into Ind Nuke prog, since India is declining to sign onto NPT.

I just hope that, it doesn't become like the F16 deal with Pak, and get IAEA in place and commit india to make some Huge payment to USA & then linger it to pressurise Ind to sign NPT & open it's Mil Nuke prog to IAEA. You never know with USA.

If I'm not wrong, the CTBT was signed between the then nuke powers only, banning Nuke tests. & what BD and most of the country has signed is NPT. Where IAEA needs to be involved to ensure peaceful use of Nuke & guard against transfer of tech to unauthorised entities.

NPT= Non proliferation treaty
CTBT= Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty

On a serious note, i see absolutely nothing there for Bangladesh. India's got a huge appetite for energy at the moment, and it would increase even further in the future, given their tremendous economic progression. The only way they can sustain this growth rate is to ensure energy for all. I dont think they'd hv much left for anyone else.

On the other hand, we also need to act very very fast regarding this whole Energy issue. Thanks to our great Prince and his former Royal Regime, absolutely nothing was done to increase productivity and supply of Power. The resources of gas has been abused to the max and now nobody gets anything.

Nuclear is the only way to go to meet our own growing hunger and to have any chance of attaining Middle Income Country status by 2015.

And going with China is the ONLY way.

Another attempt to balance the 3% resource with 25% demand. Yeah as you proceed towards building Nano (unfortunate Singur so is West Bengal) the growing demand of energy must be met and yes that is the right choice at least Bush was able to make them realise that. Leave oil reserves of the world as much possible. We need them.

no ramification whatsoever. as long as the jamat is kept at bay we shall continue to lead a peaceful life.
