Default Does anyone know what is happening with sheikh kamal stadium???

I am talking about the one in cox's bazar which should have 100k capacity when finished. But I can't seem to find a update on the stadium.

That plan may never happen. I think BCB has figured that the weather in Coxs Bazar is too unstable. Better make it into a smallish stadium with grass bank an have BPL/T20s there in future

Really??? Because I heard cox's bazar is a real goal for sheik hasina to transform into a big city and the stadium was mentioned as one of the things still to be completed there, before the election. But still no update on the current situation.

100K???

I doubt that number. That would make it one of the biggest stadiums in the world.

No update in Bangladesh means not likely to happen in the near term.

Coxs Bazzar would be a great location, especially if it’s Test match venue.

And I think BAL again getting figures wrong if they think it’s 100k stadium.

Wikipedia says the Purbachal stadium broke ground on 24 October 2018 and slated to be done by 2022.

If any BD stadium deserved to have 100k capacity, it would be that one.

We need a bigger stadium in Dhaka for sure first , the current capacity is just not cutting it for a city as populated as Dhaka and cricket being the number one sport by far. Even if the stadium won't be full for less important games but the atmosphere is going to be amazing for the big games

Prothom Alo did a piece on it few months ago. BCB basically stopped developing the stadium further. Due to negligence, gallery stands and other infrastructure is deteriorating. They initially planned for 10+ pitches and couple of practice grounds surrounding the stadium but few of them are flooded already. Cox's Bazar Board Mgt asked BCB for support but they are not getting enough attention.

Nah, they can never even sell out SBNCS. Fix corrupt BCB's ticket management first before building a new stadium or expanding the current capacity.

There is a big rush for tickets for the important games , they can sell out if they wanted to. Many tickets go to black market and lot of complimentary tickets are given out.
In Bangladesh people line up the night before just to buy tickets for the important games and some have to go home without one.

The ticket selling method is also confusing , many don't know how they can get a ticket as it's not well advertised so they don't go at all

Oh yes, I know too well.

Of course they could sell out! But they won't. This is not capitalism done right. Govt. can do nothing right, plus there is corruption on top of that. This is why I have been advocating for privatizing BCB.

UCB does a lousy job of assigning tickets last time I checked. Wonder who they bribed to get the deal to be the official ticket portal.

The F'ing long lines have to go. It is a shame, that people have to go through all that convenience for a ticket.

BCB should do more to promote the tickets themselves! Right now they don't care, they care more about distributing it to VIPs, and black market, whether they reach the hands of the commoner (who is more than willing to pay) is not a concern for them.

The whole situation is a hornet's nest. Please do capitalism right, or get out of the way, and let a private company show you.

When BD won those number series in 2015. The Current PM promised of a stadium in Purbachal within 3years. But not even a stone been laid there yet. Forget within 3 years, can you get it done by before 2021? Or 2023 WC?

Building a stadium is not a concern, however maintaining a stadium is extremely expensive.
One must realize that stadium only generates revenue for about 20 out of 365 days (that is also being very optimistic). However a stadium needs to be maintained all year. The kind of money needed for maintenance is considered a waste by NSC (for good reason) .

BD government has spent millions in the past to built/renovate a stadium at Bogra (During BNP time) and Gopalganj (During AL time). I have linked the current condition of both stadiums (they are in dire condition).

Given the lack of budget, I am more inclined to use it to maintain the existing stadiums rather than building another white elephant. The money would also be better spent on other sports.

Another alternative is that BCB finances the whole thing. That would be a massive waste also as money from the grass roots will be diverted to something not at all necessary.
