Some big names are applying for India's coaching role. Mahela, Trevor Baylis, Moody, Shewag, Kirsten. And we are stuck with goti danob.

I don't understand why they thought they needed to get rid of Rhodes. He hasn't even been with them for 2 years. We did quite well under him.

He was the scapegoat for the WC performance

WC performance is not the only reason, apparently they also looked at his contributions to team performance and I think they blame him for misreading the pitch and losing the game Vs NZ by making batsmen going hard early in search of 300 and losing wickets. Also my guess is that they asked the senior players like Shakib or at least Mashrafe for their opinion on the coach before discarding him. There were also some reports that it was the computer analyst who gave game plans to the team and not Steve Rhodes but don't know how true is that.

^^The follow up Prothom-Alo report said the coach did make plans along with the computer analyst, but he would let the analyst explain plans to the players in Hindi, as they had difficulty understanding his British accent.

As for Shakib, he was all in support of keeping Rhodes.

Other players complained that Rhodes is not scary at all, which, IMO, only shows the mental immaturity of those players (Shakib on the other hand loved how chill Rhodes was).

Erm, why would players complain the coach isn't scary at all....isn't that supposed to be a good thing lol

Firing him for misreading a pitch is ridiculous, when our think-tank/team management have made these blunders numerous times in the past.

After reading various reports, it appears that the coach was "mutually" let go due to:
- His lack of ability to coach players. This is a big one. IF coach can't coach then what is his role?
- His lack of ability to make plans. Computer analyst made plans and conveyed to the team members.
- Coaching skills not being up to par with international standard (more of a club coach)
- Not being strict enough for the players. He is a nice person but doesn't enforce or come up with plans.
- Suggesting / allowing players take 3-4 days off prior to India match during the WC.

what a surprise. No wonder nearly all of them crumble in pressure situation. Was never a fan of shakib as a captain before.

But now cant wait see end of mash's captaincy and beginning of shakib's one.

Mickey Arthur has been sacked by Pakistan
Why don’t BCB get him?

From an inside source, what I heard about Shakib is the following(I heard this a few years ago, maybe things have changed maybe it hasn't)

Shakib is extremely straightforward and he doesn't tolerate mediocrity. If a player sucks(for the lack of a better word) he will immediately tell him in the face. Of course in Bangladeshi culture or any other culture this is kinda rude and may create resentment or create disunity. Sometimes as a player you need to hear this so that you can improve your game, maybe at a proper setting...

If Shakib is captain one thing I can vouch for is no passengers will be selected for the team.

Mashrafe is more of a uniter he tried or tries his level best to keep everyone happy and united. I can't say which approach is better or worse for the long or short term but I can say is that these are vastly different leadership strategies and each works well under certain circumstances.

Papon is correct that five day vacation middle of the WC was too much, and back fired big on the team. Mash and Mushfiq sneaking into the team with injuries are disturbing news as well.

Mash and Tamim both skipped the pre-WC camp in Leicestershire - Mash returned to BD for couple of days, while Tamim went on a vacation in Dubai.

However, I don't think Rhodes alone should be blamed for players taking those unwarranted vacations, Mash prolly had a lot of say on that. As for playing with injury, without any practice, Mash alone should be held responsible for that. But Papon can't stand up to Mash anymore, while it was easy for him to make a scapegoat out of Rhodes.

good job papon. Really good.

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_...-rhodes-tenure

Does this guy really think this look good on us? A freaking board president speaking up this way about internal issues. Chagol bokbok kora bondho korte parenah.

Keep digging our own grave. Not even semi good coach will want to work with us after this.

No coach can make any team world beater when their top seniors behaves likes this. No Coach. Plain and simple. We couldn't reach semi because apart from shakib rest of the seniors (to some extent mushy performed with bat) shitted their pants during crucial moments. That's the bottom line. The less we talk about juniors or other factors such as team planning, role of selection committee the better.

Now if anyone want, one can find thousands of these silly reasons. But that doesn't deal with the main issue.

Why would Haturi ever come back after the manner of his exit, weren't some of the seniors upset with him as well

So, the main crime of Rhodes was that he gave too much liberty to the fab 5. With Mash-Shakib now having direct connection to Hasina/Joy, Papon can't control them anymore either. Makes sense that he's sending S.O.S. to Hathuru.

We need to introduce strict fitness criteria like India for inclusion in the team and playing XI.

Yo Yo Test. Then we will see how many passes the test.

If Hathuru returns, Riyad's career will be most likely over. Before he resigned, Riyad's selection was the focal point of conflict between seniors and Hathuru. Timing is also bad for Riyad this time, he will have to go through a surgery soon which may take him long time to recover from.

If Mash decides to linger on, that will definitely create plenty of conflicts as well.

^^ Not sure to be honest. FTP says they will come for 3 T20Is. Makes more sense with T20I WC a year away.

Next ODI series we have in FTP is in Ireland next year June. Unless BCB arrange something outside the FTP, Mash will have to wait till December 2020 for a Home ODI series (SL) to bid farewell.
