Default My Friend Tamim: Shakib Al Hasan

Shakib is the best writer in the "prothom-alo" newspaper! Who else agrees?!

Not to take anything away from Shakib's writing skills, but his columns are likely edited by PA before getting published. Having said that, Shakib does a good job in getting his thoughts across, and kudos to him for reaching out to the public through newspaper columns.

About Tamim, he's got a good heart... it seems as if he is more than willing to share the abundance of monetary wealth he's deservingly gained, and thats a sign of a good human being. Proud of both Tamim and Shakib!

My Friend Tamim: Shakib Al Hasan

Tamim would never change after his injury, there was no doubt about it. But he had this urge to play a big innings to improve his self confidence. Against Zimbabwe he could not do anything spectacular in first 3 games, so there was always this thought on back of his mind to do something special. And so he did, its a shame he missed out on a century for just 5 runs. All of Tamim's thought are base around cricket, specially for batting his thoughts are endless. Before the the last match he already checked his stats and calculated he needed 105 runs to increase his average to thirties. He does thinks like that, something I wont dream to think about. Even if I think more than normal about a game I wont take it as far as 105 will increase my career average.

Tamim's missed out ton has probably hurt Razzak more. Because Tamim promised to get an i-phone for him had he completed the ton.
There is something special about Tamim which can only be found in few people. Before the series started Tamim promised 2 of the back room staffs (team boy) that he would buy them a car if he scores 2 century. Knowing Tamim and been friend with him for a long , I can assure you he would have. Tamim is man of his word. Last cricket season he promised to buy a i-phone for Mohamedan pacer called Emon Ahmed and Tamim fulfilled his promise.

There are more stories like that. After the end of normal practice session Tamim would have a big hit out in center wicket with the help of the groundsmen. If anyone gets him out or takes his catch, he would give them 1500 taka per catch/out. More time he gets out more money he has to pay to the groundsmen. Beside that if anyone needs any help Tamim always comes forward. I have noticed it makes him feel better also he plays well.

I first come to know of Tamim when we met in Under-15 training camp at BKSP. After that we played for Bangladesh u-17 and u-19. But we became friends after joining the national team, only then we got to know each other more. After 2006 we have been around each other a bit longer from eating out with friends to going out there aren't many places where you would not see both of us. Now that both of our flats in the same building we see each other more often.

But you will find our personality is completely different . Only commom thing is we are both stubborn. Normally we never have any serious issues among us and even if we do one of us will resolve the matter before it goes any further . But there was this one time we had big argument which I am not telling you. For that we did not speak to each other for a long time until the day in January when I scored 92 against Sri Lanka and won the match. I came back, we did a man-hug and I got all emotional and teary. After that match we started to talk again.

Tamim has another great personality. He always has time for his friend, whether its in the field or outside the field. If anyone seek any advice, its Tamim they go to first. For example buying a car to which restaurant would be nice for a party. Tamim has answer to all of that and he tries to help them with that matter. May be I am not explaining to you better. He is there for you in different situations. Not every one is like that.

Even though Tamim is a great person. He always have friendly banter with me. Always asking me how many century I have got in test matches, I also reply by asking how many he scored in ODI. And same happened on Sunday. After he got out and returned to the pavillion he was a bit upset but once he was bit relaxed I asked him "So how many century you got now?"immidiately he starts "how many century you scoreed in whites?

This a translation (sort of) article from Prothom-alo. Apology in advance if I made any small mistake.

Brilliant, please keep up the good work and finish the translation whenever you can for us that are unfortunately illiterate in Bangla.

Does anyone know anything about the argument they had? Shakib scored the 92* against Sri lanka in mid January 2009.

Its complete now. Its not easy to translate from Bangla to English. More than often you have to adjust and find a phrase in English.
