if you are clever you should be noticing a pattern:
in 1999 Australlia beats Pakistan
in 2003, Australlia beats India
in 2007, Australlia beats Sri Lanka
in 2011,Bangladesh might complete the south asian puzzle to fall victims to aussies
lol,
btw, even if Bangladesh does make the finals of 2011, i'd still be proud, losing to aussies will complete the pattern but if we beat them... we would break the pattern. Bangladesh has to improve and improve till the golden cup arrives in 2011... we have to show that we are not a minnow four years is plenty of time to improve, don't you think?
hats off to mcgrath for a happy retirement and congrats to aussies for fine cricket show!

Congrats!
The game was reduced to 38 overs... yet Australia almost reached the 300 mark! Tehy have really lifted the level of One-day cricket singlehandedly and thrown a challenge to every other teams to live up to it!

I am hopeful that difference between aussies and other teams won't be as much in the 2011 world cup.
Anyways, congrats to Aussies for winning the world cup three time in a row.

Australia are the best team in the world, and historically are the greatest cricketing country in the world.
There is a reason for that. They are 1. Professional 2. Hardworking.
The whole Aussie cricketing set up is organized and efficient with for example Aussie players getting immediate treatment from the best physios.
Aussie players work damn hard. Their internal league is quite competitive and full of good players and you have to be damn hard to get in the national side.
The Aussie posters on here can correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know inclusion within the side is purely performance-based and nothing to do with "status" (historical success...even if current performance is very poor e.g. Tendulakar).
If the rest of the world wants to be able to challenge Aussie domination of the game then they have to emulate the Aussies in this. I can see BD being able to do this and Sri Lanka as well.
1. BCCI is disorganized, full of political infighting and incompetent.
2. Paki cricket body is basically the same with political interference in the game and lots of infighting amonst the Paki players. Worst case scenario Pakistan will cease to exist in the near future (but that's a different issue).
3. England, only a few people care about the game here and the attention it gets is mainly because many in the middle-class elite played it in their youth and the MCC is a powerful body full of people from wealthy and high backgrounds. However there isn't sufficient interest here to produce lots and lots of good players nor is there huge money in the sport to motivate youngsters to play in it.
4. NZ, very good side, but it seems they have a small population and a relatively small pool of cricketing professionals.
5. South Africa. If they get their act together I feel they can challenge Aussie domination.
6. Sri Lanka can as well, but their population (thus potential pool of talented players) is smaller than BDs.
7. BD is becoming even more cricket mad and the country is becoming more prosperous (e.g. recently it is being said that the BD shipping industry might make billions) and there is a huge pool of talent. I think BD along with SA can become the two main rivals to the mighty Australia.

Ozi Ozi Ozi
oi oi oi...
Best team won the cup.
Probably the best team ever...if you consider how they have dominated the game over the last few years and won every single game in this tournament so comprehensively.

This is level of domination by a single team (country) in any sport is totally unprecedented. I think only if the US formed a basketball team with all frontline (no lallu pinju players) NBA players and kept that team intact for over a period, then and only then they can achieve this, albeit in a different sport.
