Default John Davison - Canada\'s Australian player

Canadians down under
Dave Liverman - 27 October 2002

Several members of the Canadian national squad are playing cricket in the southern hemisphere this winter in preparation for the World Cup.

John Davison

John Davison, who previously represented Victoria has switched states to South Australia (and is also representing Glenelg in A grade). He looks like commanding a regular place in the state side, and has made a promising start to the season.

John Davison - season summary:

12 October: Southern Districts (Adelaide) v Glenelg. John bowls 19 overs for just 28 runs, taking 3 wickets in the opening A grade match for the season. [Scorecard]

15-18 October: South Australia took on John's former state in the opening 4-day Pura Cup match. John failed with the bat, making a duck, but after taking 1/7 off 5 overs in the first innings, spun his side to a satisfying 208 run victory with the excellent figures of 32-3-107-4. Scorecard | Report]

19 October: Victoria exacted revenge with an 8 wicket victory in the one day Ing Cup match, but John took both wickets to fall and returned excellent figures of 8-1-36-2. [Scorecard]

25-28 October: South Australia lost by an innings to New South Wales, but John recorded a first-class best with an unbeaten 72 from 56 balls, batting at 9 in the first innings. He took two expensive wickets in the NSW innings, and made just 2 when South Australia followed on. [Scorecard]

2 November: John took 2 wickets and made 17 in A grade as Glenelg lose heavily [Scorecard].

8-11 November: John returned to the South Australia team as they drew with Western Australia in the Pura Cup. He bowled just 15 overs without taking a wicket but after run out for a duck in the first innings makes a useful 30 after coming in as night watchman [Scorecard].

14-17 November: South Australia defeated a powerful NSW side in the Pura Cup. John did well with the bat, making 22 (as night-watchman), and 14 (hitting Brett Lee for 2 fours). In the NSW 1st innings John acheived a career best 5/81, dismissing both Michael Bevan and Mark Waugh, in both cases with the first ball he bowled to them. In a tense 2nd innings, he took the crucial wickets of Slater and Mark Waugh (for a duck). [Scorecard].

22-25 November: Both John and South Australia struggle in the return fixture with Victoria. John fared reasonably well with the bat, making 18 and 13, but takes 0/114 as Victoria win by an innings. [Scorecard].

7-8 December: Playing for Glenelg against Adelaide University, John returned the excelent figures of 4-2-5-2 in the first innings, and took 6/88 in the second. He was less successful with the bat, making 1 and 10 as Glenelg lost to the students . [Scorecard].

14 December: John made 69 for Glenelg, and takes 1/48 against East Torrens [Scorecard].

19-22 December: South Australia suffer a heavy defeat to Western Australia in the Pura Cup. John made an unbeaten 32, scoring his runs out of 35 added for the last three wickets. He took 3/131 as WA made 520/89 and recorded a duck as his side went down to an innings defeat [Scorecard]
