Default Is this an Onion article?: "Mushfiqur eyes revenge against Afghanistan"

I know this is being mentioned in mushfiqur thread but this deserves its own thread. What is going on? I am not sure if this is Mushfiques fault or Isam's fault.

Have a read:

Mushfiqur eyes revenge against Afghanistan

Quote:
"They [Afghanistan] will also be under pressure," Mushfiqur said. "They would like to do something in such a big event. But we want to take revenge after being beaten in the Asia Cup. Our first target is to cross the first round, but more importantly, we are concentrating on the first game against Afghanistan. We have two matches after that against Nepal and Hong Kong.

"We have found out more information about them [Afghanistan] lately. We have played against them, which helped in that regard. They might know enough about us but Shakib [Al Hasan], Mashrafe [Mortaza] and Tamim [Iqbal] didn't play the Asia Cup match against them. They must have seen these players on TV, but it is a different ball-game when they play against them."
How good of a captain can you be on field if your interviews are like this? Baba Mushfique, please talk less, and stop embarrassing yourself. What happens if you lose to Afghan again?

This is just to get our competitive juices flowing i believe. After losing to our arch rivals Afghanistan We might just focus on taking revenge against the other formidable foes like Namibia, Uganda, Cook Islands, Iceland etc etc later in the intercontinental cup.

Go Mushy!

PNG, don't forget PNG. Also China, when they're ready. Then maybe USA and Canada as well.

Mushfique should not be allowed to hold press conferences or interviews any longer. Muzzle him for good.

Dr. Z how come the captain has no communication protocol for these conferences ... I saw BCB medial personnel sometimes with him what is his job when attending the conferences?

The bar is set so low that we have to get revenge over Afghanistan. Very immature statement I must admit.

Muzzle?

Interestingly, he was a good leader and speaker when he first became captain. What happened?

I won't consider it as an upset if Afghanistan ends up beating us. They have beaten us in the past.

What about other way around? Upset if we beat AFG?

That's being too harsh in him.

He is the best batsman Bangladesh has ever produced and has served us well in that capacity.

That he is a poor captain is as much the BCB and Coach's fault as his.

Let's not get too overboard.

I love him as a batsman. I don't have any issue against him personally. His hard working nature is highly appreciated.

But we are talking here about the captain Mushfiq, not the person or batsman Mushfiq. To me he is holding losing mentality as a captain. Mushfiq doesn't have any thing to offer to the team as a captain.

As an auditor you should know exactly what stats are used for. Ignore his early years when he was sent in to sink and swim and floundered just like his compatriots then.

I DO say so.

If you have an opinion to the contrary - pray, sir, who is the best batsmen today? I'm sure some of the new guys would turn out to be better but they have not survived the test of time.

Who's your man?

The less he open his mouth, the better it is for both: the team as well as for himself.

How can you trust Rahim that he will take care of the new players in the team, i.e. he will nurture the new players and divert the pressure from them? Rather it looks like is he throwing them under the bus, one-by-one, to divert the pressure from him and his buddies. Al-Amin, Zia, Sunny, Smamsur... one by one. Who is next?

Looks like basically he will do anything and everything to save his buddies, even it means throwing new players under the bus or creating caotic situation to team harmony. No wonder why siddenly team is playing like a dis-functional team, with quite a few players with bad body language, and load of dropped catches.

The young players are worried. they don't know who will be next in the line who will be sacrifised by the captain to hide his stupidity as a captain. Instead of some encouraging remarks to the reportter, which new player will be his target to redecule?

Its so sad that when Rahim was brought as a captain replacing Sakib, the main reason was his strenth as a unifier, some one who can bring back a team together instantly and in the meantime will learn and develop as a caption. Now he had completely lost his so-called strenght as a uniter, lost credibility to fans and young players, never really learned and developed as a captain.

Rahim is still very valuable as a middle order batsman. But if BCB take too much time replacing him from leadership role, I am afraid eventually we will lose both: a) Rahim the Captian as well as b) Rahim the player.

Mushy is actually our best batsman by a good distance right now.

Technique - check
Range of strokes - check
natural ability - check
aestheticism - check
ability to graft - check
ability to milk easy runs - check
ability to accelerate and explode - check
ability in the clutch - check
determination - check
work ethic - check
mental toughness - check
physical toughness - check

Only batsman in Bangladesh history who checks ALL the boxes. I believe Mominul will be the second (he already is, but sample size is too small so far).
