Default Test Batting Analysis 2010-2012

The so called experts have put forward many explanations for our diabolical test record. When India, Sri Lanka or New Zealand started out, they had similar struggles to triumph over five days. But even if they were unable to string together victories, they managed to hold onto draws, which we haven't. The inability of our batsmen to bat for long periods is largely at fault.

I looked back at our batting numbers over from 2010 onwards. What do the numbers tell us? Are we batting more overs than we used to? Is there a visible disparity in our performance between the first and second innings? The numbers were revealing.

We have played 13 tests in total between 2010 and now. This includes nine home tests and four away. On average, we scored 288 in the first innings and batted for 86 overs. Predictably our second innings scores are a little lower. In the second innings we have scored 267 runs on batting 80 overs on average over this period.

Of the 13 innings, we have been bowled out for under 300 8 times and failed to play out 100 overs on 9 of those occassions. Our second innings performances are almost identical ( 8 times under 300, 8 times batted under 100 overs). So in a game of 15 sessions, we have almost without exception survived only for 6 sessions or less.

Tell me what you think of these numbers...

I think these numbers prove that we have no hope as long as we're stuck with these losers.

Enough is enough these players are thinking they have been granted free ticket and hence not improving...look at what happened to Naeem who was out and because he did not do good but he worked hard to earned it and he was rewarded and now it is upto him to keep improving the temperment he showed in first innings. None of key batsmen batted to save the team rather just batted to have score for themselves. No responsibility and accountability when they continue to do the same errors.

A new breed of well educated cricketers is the only way out of the crisis we are stuck in. Our current cricketers are simply stuck in a loop of practicing basic technique and skills without expanding their knowlegde of the game of cricket itself. This lack of knowledge is hindering the conceptual understanding of overall match situations forcing them to resign to being spoon fed by the coach on what to do on elementary things like winning toss, team selection, bowling changes etc. we need cricketers who understand the game like Dravid, Sangakara, Ranatunga etc. At the moment we have a scarcity of cricket pundits amongst our ex cricketers, commentators, sports reporters, bcb officials, local umpires etc. The lack of knowledge is evident at all levels including the fan base. The Nasirs and shahadats will not change anything with their WWF celebrations or SRK emulations. We have to wait for a new generation of enlightened individuals willing to think and learn about the game they play.
