Bangladesh A team tour of Sri Lanka
Excellent tour ahead of the Test series in India.
Mominul is captain. Shadman, Miraz, Nurul (WK), Soumya, Rishad Hossain (leg spinner) are the notable selections. There are others like Jaharul Islam, but they are known quantities.
If Nurul scores runs, could he be our next Test keeper? Mominul and Shadman need to score big runs. Hopefully Rishad gets to play both Tests.

What’s the rest of the squad?
Nurul for a long time has been in contention for test wicket keeper, in my mind that has not changed but if he is given opportunities he must show he is a clearly better keeper than the likes of mushy and liton otherwise there’d be no point of picking him since they seem to be better batsman.
My gut feeling is that we are stuck with mushy as the keeper, wouldn’t mind being wrong.

A team leave for SL today
Quote:
The team will be leaving for Colombo today. They will play two four-day matches and three one-dayers against the Sri Lanka A side during the tour.
Soumya Sarkar, who was dropped from the national squad following his poor run with the bat in the Tigers’ first two matches in the ongoing tri-nation T20I series, has been named in the squad.
Nazmul Hossain, who was included in the Tigers’ squad for the Chattogram leg of the ongoing triangular T20I series, was also been named in the Bangladesh A for the Sri Lanka tour. BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin informed The Daily Star yesterday that he will join the team for the second four-dayer and the following three one-day matches.
Squad: Mominul Haque (captain), Shadman Islam, Jahurul Islam, Mohammad Mithun, Qazi Nurul Hasan, Anamul Haque, Soumya Sarkar , Abu Jayed, Ebadot Hossain, Sunzamul Islam, Mohammad Rishad Hossain, Salauddin Sakil, Mehedi Hasan Rana, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Saif Hassan, Mehedi Hasan Miraz.
|
U/23 Captain Saif has been named in the A-team as well. I guess he will join after U/23 series, that ends on Sep 27.
Nayeem Hasan misses out with a finger injury.
Puzzled to see Naim or Aminul has not been named for either U/23 or A-team!
Rishad on the other hand found his way into the A-team after being axed from the U/19 team!

I am glad Rishad is getting another chance. Its up to him to make it count. That being said, I think under Nannu's leadership anything is possible re: selections.
A player who is too poor for an A team XI might find himself included in the Test lineup because Nannu thinks he's a "complete batsman", then after a failure or embarassment Papon will release some statements as to how that player was selected "without consulting" him first.
Comedy show all around.
I hope the players I like do well (Mominul, Miraz, Nurul, Rishad, Ebadot, Jayed, et al). Don't care about known quantities like Anamul or Jaharul to be honest.

1st A team test was washed out without a ball bowled.
They will replay it starting tonight (Sep 28 Sri Lanka time). Hope our boys do well.

I would add Naim, Ankon, and Biplob to this squad, in places of Soumya, Anam, and Rishad.
Shakil and Rana are waste of opportunities. Our selectors need to find better pace prospects.

No score update on Cricinfo...so looks like Day 1 washed out again.
Really shouldn't have toured Lanka at this time of year. BCB are so ignorant. They have agreed to move Australia's tour from Feb to June. A 0-0 washout will hurt BD pointswise (only 40 points) vs 60 if we drew 1-1 like last time. They should have told CA to either tour in Feb as previously agreed or forfeit the points.
Our series in PAK will likely not be played in UAE, so again BD might have to forfeit 120 points off the bat.

Once again, match abandoned without a ball bowled.
BCB really are clueless arranging a tour to SL this time of year. And then agreeing to host Australia in June. SMH.

Cricinfo was wrong, no washout (yet).
BD A 270-6 at the end of day 1 (3-day match). Mithun top scored with 92. Jahurul and Shadman also with scores. But Shanto, Mominul, and Nurul failed.

When I first saw Shanto in U19 world cup, I genuinely believed that he could be our Sangakaara.
For some reason, he changed his approach to batting. Instead of trying to be the batsman who constantly rotates strikes and puts a massive price on his wicket, he decided to play like Jayasuriya. He can still change, he needs good guidance.

BD 360 (Mithun 92, Jaharul 90, Miraz 57, Shadman 53)
SL 204-2 (Ebadat, Miraz 1 wicket each)
SL is in a strong position and BD likely will not get another chance to bat as this is just a 3 day game.

another failure of Sarkar, and Nurul is not giving any good vibe at highest level. I think we should move on for few years without Sarkar.

Very disappointing game.
The batsmen who needed to score runs didn't, and a couple of limited hacks ended up top scoring (don't think Mithun and Jaharul are good enough for any level beyond this).
Biggest worry is the pace department. On a pitch where a no name SL seamer took 3 for 48, two of our Test seamers (Jayed and Ebadat) only managed 1 wicket for 130 odd runs. Jayed only bowled 12 overs for some reason. Hopefully it was just the rust of not playing any red ball cricket in 7 months.

Selectors made a big blunder taking Soumya ahead of Jahurul in the Test against AFG. Soumya is a joke against quality spin.

Better performance in the 2nd match:
SL 223-5 at stumps (was 153-1 at one stage). Miraz with 3 for 66 and Ebadat 2-51...the other bowlers are no-name cannon fodders. Rishad is playing and being quite expensive for no wicket.
Mominul and Nurul need to score runs. Shadman needs to kick on and score a big one. He's impressive in that he almost always gets a score, but he gets out when well set.

Miraz 7 wickets, Mominul-Shadman doing well.
It is rare to win a 4 day test but A should try.

Good knock from Momin. Captains knock after failing on the flat pitch where SL racked up 460.
Good knock from Shadman as well. Nurul on 35 not out...I want to see him stay not out if he can't get a big score. Hopefully Miraz can stick around at the crease and score some runs.
