Former Australian cricketer and batting coach of Chittagong Kings, Michael Bevan, will be focusing on how to boost the run-rate through singles and doubles as he thinks that would be the key to success in Twenty20 cricket.
Even though he arrived on Saturday night, Bevan did not miss the opportunity to watch his skipper Mahmudullah play at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in a Dhaka Premier League match between Abahani and Gazi Tank Cricketers on Sunday. ‘You have to boost the scoring rate not only by hitting fours and sixes but also by the number of balls that you play for one and twos,’ Bevan told reporters at the SBNS. ‘The first thing is that you have to score a little bit quicker. I think in Twenty20 cricket you need a number of options,’ said Bevan. ‘You need to be flexible about how you are scoring runs. That’s Twenty20 cricket but it also depends on the condition what strokes you need to play,’ he added.

চট্টগ্রাম: সময়টা ভালো যাচ্ছে না জাতীয় দলের উদ্বোধনী ব্যাটসম্যান তামিম ইকবালের। কয়েক মাস আগে বাংলাদেশ সফর করা ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজ ও পাকিস্তানের বিপক্ষে জ্বলে উঠেনি তার ব্যাট। সবকিছু ছেড়ে ফেলে বাংলাদেশ প্রিমিয়ার লিগেই (বিপিএল) ঘুরে দাঁড়াতে মরিয়া বাঁহাতি এই ক্রিকেটার। প্রতিযোগিতা শুরুর আগে আয়োজিত এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এমন কথাই বলেছেন ‘চিটাগাং কিংস’র এই আইকন ক্রিকেটার। কিংসকে ‘সেরা বিভাগ’ হিসেবে অভিহিত করে তামিম বলেন,‘জয়ের জন্য মাঠে নামবো আমরা। নিজেকে উজার করে দেওয়ার সর্বোচ্চ চেষ্টা করবো। যদি সেরাটা খেলা খেলতে পারি, অবশ্যই ভালো করবো।’ কিংস’র সিইও সামির কাদের চৌধুরী বলেন, ‘প্রতিযোগিতায় চ্যাম্পিয়ন হতে চাই আমরা। আর আমাদের মিডিয়া পার্টনার হিসেবে থাকবে স্থানীয় দুটি এফএম রেডিও। এরই মধ্যে তাদের সঙ্গে চুক্তিও করেছি। পাশাপাশি একটি বেসরকারি টেলিভিশন চ্যানেলের সঙ্গেও কথাবার্তা চূড়ান্ত পর্যায়ে রয়েছে।’ দলের উপদেষ্টা মিনহাজুল আবেদিন নান্নু বলেন, ‘ভালো দল গড়তে চেষ্টার কোন ক্রটি ছিলো না আমাদের। এ দলটিই সবার কাছে তুলে ধরবে চট্টগ্রামকে। প্রতিযোগিতায় জয়ের ব্যাপারে আমরা আশাবাদি।’ চিটাগং কিংসের কোচ অস্ট্রেলিয়ার সাবেক ক্রিকেটার মাইকেল বিভ্যান বলেন,‘তরুণ ও অভিজ্ঞদের মিশেলে দারুণ দল হয়েছে আমাদের।’

চিটাগাং কিংসের টেকনিক্যাল ডিরেক্টর ডিন জোন্সের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করছেন মাহমুদুল্লাহ রিয়াদ সমকাল বিপিএলে চিটাগাং কিংসের টেকনিক্যাল ডিরেক্টর হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করছেন অস্ট্রেলিয়ার ডিন জোন্স। গতকাল এক সাক্ষাৎকারে দলের অবস্থা সম্পর্কে কথা বলেছেন এই অস্ট্রেলিয়ান... প্রশ্ন : দলে আপনার মূল ভূমিকাটা কী হবে? ডিন জোন্স : কোচদের পরামর্শ দেব। খালেদ মাহমুদ আমার চোখ এবং কান। সে আমাকে বাংলাদেশি খেলোয়াড়দের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগে সহায়তা করবে। তাদের ভূমিকা বোঝাতে সাহায্য করবে। ফিল্ডিং ও বোলিং কোচ হিসেবে আমার সঙ্গে মাইকেল বেভান রয়েছে। কোচিং স্টাফ নিয়ে আমি খুশি। প্রশ্ন : আপনি হাতে খুব বেশি সময় পাননি। স্বল্প সময়ে কীভাবে আপনি পরিকল্পনা বাস্তবায়ন করবেন? ডিন জোন্স : এ সমস্যাটা প্রত্যেক দলের রয়েছে। আমরা দু'জন খেলোয়াড়কে পাচ্ছি না। শোয়েব মালিক এবং লেন্ডল সিমন্স আসছে না। আমরা তাদের পরিবর্তিত খেলোয়াড় খুঁজছি। তাদের নাম অবশ্য আমরা প্রকাশ করছি না। তারা পাকিস্তান, ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজ বা অন্য কোথাও প্রথম শ্রেণীর ম্যাচ খেলে থাকে। তারা ১০ তারিখ সকালে এসে পেঁৗছবে। এসেই মাঠে নেমে পড়বে তারা। প্রশ্ন : গত কয়েক বছর ধরে আপনি বাংলাদেশের ক্রিকেটের নিয়মিত খবর রাখছেন। আপনার কি মনে হয়, টি২০ ক্রিকেটে আমাদের ক্রিকেটারদের মধ্যে যথেষ্ট সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে! ডিন জোন্স : এ ধরনের টুর্নামেন্টের সবচেয়ে সুবিধা হচ্ছে তরুণরা মুরালিধরন, তামিম ইকবাল, ডোয়াইন ব্রাভোর মতো খেলোয়াড়দের সঙ্গে খেলছে। দুর্ভাগ্যক্রমে এখানে শোয়েব মালিক নেই। এখানে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় হচ্ছে, অন্য দলের খেলোয়াড়দের বিপক্ষে তারা কেমন খেলে। আমার বিশ্বাস, কিছু খেলোয়াড় তাদের সেরা খেলাটা বের করে আনবে। কিছু খেলোয়াড় ব্যর্থ হবে। আর কিছু খেলোয়াড় দারুণ খেলবে। প্রশ্ন : আইপিএল ভারতের জাতীয় দলে বড় ধরনের প্রভাব ফেলেছে। আপনি কি মনে করেন, বিপিএল বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় দলে তেমন প্রভাব ফেলবে? ডিন জোন্স :আমার মনে হয়, এটা তাদের আরও বেশি বিকশিত হতে সহায়তা করবে। বেশি চাপ, প্রচুর দর্শকের সামনে অনুষ্ঠিত এ টুর্নামেন্টে তাদের আরও সতর্ক হতে সহায়তা করবে। সুতরাং আমরা জানতে পারব তারা কতটা ভালো খেলতে পারে। কোন কোন সময় আপনি পরাভূত হবেন_ তখন আপনি আপনার শক্তি ও দুর্বলতা নিয়ে কাজ করার সুযোগ পাবেন। আমার মনে হয় না, বাংলাদেশের ক্রিকেটপ্রেমী ও ক্রিকেটারদের জন্য এর থেকে ভালো সময় আর আসবে। এটা অবশ্যই প্রয়োজন ছিল। আমার বিশ্বাস, তারা এটা চেয়েছিল। প্রশ্ন : বিশ্ব ক্রিকেটের পরিবর্তনটা কেমন বুঝতে পারছেন? ডিন জোন্স : এখন একটা ভারসাম্য অবস্থায় আসছে। আমার ধারণা টি২০ ক্রিকেটের একটা ভালো সময় পার করছে। এ সময়ে ৫০ ওভারের খেলায় জনপ্রিয়তা পড়ে যাচ্ছে। এখন টি২০ ক্রিকেটের বিশ্বকাপ হচ্ছে। যে কোনো ক্রিকেটের সর্বোচ্চ পর্যায় হচ্ছে বিশ্বকাপ। হোক এটা ৫০ ওভার বা ২০ ওভারের। সে সঙ্গে লক্ষ্য থাকছে টেস্ট ক্রিকেটে সেরা হওয়া। এখন সম্ভবত টি২০ ক্রিকেটের পাল্লাটা একটু ভারী। প্রশ্ন : ভারতীয় সংস্কৃতি সম্পর্কে আপনার একটা ভালো ধারণা রয়েছে। বাংলাদেশ সম্পর্কে আপনার ধারণা কী? ডিন জোন্স : আসলে এখন পর্যন্ত আমি সেভাবে কিছুই দেখার সুযোগ পাইনি। তবে একটা বিষয় আমি জানি, লন্ডনে যেসব সেরা ভারতীয় রেস্টুরেন্ট তাদের সবগুলোতেই রয়েছে বাংলাদেশি পাচক। Looks like no Simmons and Malik. Good news about Malik. No one wants him. But cant say that about Simmons. Anyways there are lots of players up for grab. I would go for Nannes if possible
