IND are actually hosting Asia Cup 2018 (Sep 13 - Sep 28) in UAE. While BAN, IND, PAK, SL & AFG directly qualify, the 6th team will be any of Hong Kong, Singapore, Oman, Nepal, UAE or Malaysia.

Since it's an ODI battle, BAN should qualify from group stage.

We are in the same group as Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. We can definitely finish top and go to Super 4 and a bit of good performance we can make it to the final.

Must try to win this one, before having any world cup aspirations.

Given the history we have regarding this tournament, the players have some unfinished business, cannot write them off no matter how strong the other teams look

In terms of support at the stadium l, Indians and Paks will be there in big numbers in UAE.

I wonder how much of our desi Bhais will go out to cheer on the team.

Let's say IND, PAK, BAN and SL qualify to Super 4. So, BAN will face SL again and have to beat them. They also have to beat either IND or PAK to get into the final and beat any of the 2 once more to become champ.

In a nutshell, BAN will have to beat SL twice and PAK/IND twice to become Asian champ. That's a huge ask for Sabbir & co.

Competition will be fierce this time around. We should look to winning it. Very hard to predict though. India will probably win it.

With this T20I series win we have become "the unknown wicket bullies", only Shakib had some exposure to this ground. Mind you there was a discussion to arrange a practice match which did not happen.
Similarly only Shakib, Tamim and Riad a little had exposure on UAE grounds. Let us take this success to UAE and reach for that golden deer we have been craving for so long.

Beat Haturi first

Then beat Afga.

Then dream about winning Asian cup.

Honestly think we should schedule an ODI series against one of the weaker nations to get a feel of the players we want and give some guys like Ariful and Shanto their ODI debut.

^^^

Invite Ireland for a 3-match ODI series. That would be a good warm-up. We should think of it as a 10th year anniversary, since they last toured us back in 08 which we won handsomely 3-0.

It would be interesting to see who wins it this time around. I wasn't a fan of the previous tournament which was a T20 event. Asia Cup should always stay as an ODI event. People say it's a meaningless tournament, and I disagree with that. I consider it similar to the European Championships of Soccer.

WI series will give us some desperately needed white ball confidence and momentum.

But Shakib might miss out due to finger surgery.

How are the UAE pitches? We need 3 pacers or not? Mash and Fizz can do it? I would think Miraz is a must.

If this is true, there's no point in us even trying. We'll be brushed aside by every side.

What happened with his finger? When did that happen?

Shakib said he will discuss with BCB and go for the surgery during a less competitive series. So he is likely to skip the Zim series

So here would be my 14 for Asia Cup

Tamim
Liton
Shakib
Mosaddek
Mushy
Riyad
Ariful
Mash
Miraz
Rubel
Fizz

Apu, Rony, Shanto

Pretty fragile attack past Riyad but I am trusting one or 2 of the seniors to guide through. Squeeze in Mosaddek in between seniors and I think he will do well. If we don't need rescuing then mushy, Riyad, Ariful and Mash can all come before him and accelerate. The bowling attack is pretty good and has enough variety. Apu should be in the squad if he is fit and we can sub him for a seamer or Miraz or Mosa if conditions demand.

UAE pitches are pretty lifeless, I think batting will be easier.

India will win this. Very strong team all around. Batting, spin, pace they got everything.

That said, we should have a good cup. ODI is our best format so hopefully we live up to it.
