Default 2nd T20 Experience - I touched Riyad!

What an experience!

We were 10 of us (friends and famlies) and took this 15 seater. It was a 5 hours drive. We left around 1pm and during the drive someone suggested to go to player's hotel before hand.

We did and was able to see the players very up close. We waited by the elevator and grabbed all the players for selfies and autographs.

First out came the WI players. But was only able to take some random pictures.

w/Ramdin (not me)

Badree

Then came the BD players.

Then finally came the big man! Mahmudullah Riyad. He didn't spend too much time but I followed him. He stopped for a bit and I patted him few times in the shoulder and said "good luck bhai. ajke hobe ajke hobe". Sneakily felt his biceps too. I always questioned what does Riyad eat that he is strong and called him a beast (opened a thread maybe too).

So here is me with the big man and being star struck (I am on the right with BD cap).

Observations

Mushfique was nice but seemed irritated. Sabbir spent the most time. Litton/Miraz were nice too and quiet shy.

Tamim/Shakib didn't stop. But Tamim is built like a solid player. I have seen him before few years ago but he looks so diff now. Very lean and broad shouldered. Saw Shakib few times in the past but he loook the same. Riyad is also very tall and quiet built.

Saw Miraz/Shabbir/Litton for the fist time. They are very diff in person. Not that muscular and not that tall.

But WI players were giants esp Russell and Brathwaite.

About the game

I will let others who went to the games to elaborate more. But it was a very tense game. BD crowds were vocal and it felt like home.

Tamim/Shakib seemed very focused. Tamim is a sweet timer of the ball. So is Soumya. When he connects, it seems effortless. Shakib plays intelligently and notices the fielder and improvises.

Rubel is clearly the fastest BD bowler. He zips through. Fizz is very quick too. Even though he gave a lot of runs, he seemed threatening and his bouncers were good.

Fielding was electric. Esp Litton Das. That dude was amazing in the boundary.

Arifur's dropped catch was the only big miss. Tamim was on the boundary too and when Arifur dropped it, he collapsed to the ground with his hand in the head.

But WI players were absolute monsters in batting. Our sixes barely crossed the ropes but Russell/Brathwaite/Fletcher tonked the ball for miles. Sailed over the stadium.

We could have never won if we planned to contain them. We took our chances and got those wickets. Fizz had to bowl those bouncers and make them play.

The game ebbed and flowed a lot. Apu held his nerve and bowled a magnificent last over.

Thanks for sharing.

Shabbir seems the fan pleaser from what I have seen previously.

In the early 2000s when Bangladesh toured UK, Rafiq was the most khaista person. All other players were more or less shy with fans but always had times for BD fans. Most friendly was Pilot.

Your batting reminded me of Tamim back in 2014 at Kissena park. But that was a tape ball and it was me and Ajfar bowling

Can't remember if you are a southpaw too.

Rubel is our quickest, but Fizz is quite quick too. People forget the guns recorded Fizz hitting 90 mph in South Africa last year.

How fast did Rony look? He was around the 80-82 mph mark on TV.

^ Rony seemed quite slow. But I couldn’t tell if he was just intentionally bowling slow or that’s just his natural speed. It’s hard to judge that from stadium.

Fizz looked almost as quick as Rubel. Esp some of his bouncers were.

Exact same experiences I had when I encountered the BD team here in Sydney. Mushfique seemed irritated. The slightly newbies in the team seemed like a delight to speak with.

Did you ask Mullah if he plans to score a 2nd Test century before he retires? If you did, maybe he would have touched you back.

Yeah I’m a stalker for Riyad. I got what I wanted. I could have hugged him from behind but that would have been inappropriate.

Stadium was 80% full. A lot of people were on the grass mounds.
