Good thread and good analysis, Nocturnal.

This win makes me happy as there were quite a few performers today, we no nonger need on man's heroics ti win a game. Plus ofcourse Farhad made me proud. After Rana's death I was looking for some one to root for ....some one who is considered not talented enough (by the so called experts) but who beats all odds and answers with performance... who can improve over time. I found Farhad in Rana, but his ceiling is much higher that Rana (in my opinion).

I am hoping someday farhad will play Abdul Razzak's (Pakistan's) role in BD cricket in all form of cricket.

Thats why this win is soo sweet to me.

Is that so? I thought Farhad is more like medium pacer. But seems like he is almost as fast as our fast bowlers. I hope Shahadat is satisfied with his performance, never mind reaching 150 milestone. In addition to chaces of huring himself, fast bowling not always are economical. He was so economical this game, I did not miss Mash. Hopefully in ODIs, he partner up with Mash this this type of effective bowling.

no, remember the world cup?

I still think ODIs are our game. and that would be so even if i wasn't so biased against BS cricket, err, i mean twenty 20 cricket.

Thanks for the information.

we've seen shahadat bowling quicker than that in the past.
but farhad comes as a surprise... i couldn't think he can bowl that quick. that pace will make him even more acceptable in the 3rd seamer's role.
sajid leaves me speechless... this lad offers something that nobody has done before for us - both way swing at 136 kph from a left-armer!(don't have any idea about golam nowsher prince's pace, though)
great future lies ahead!

I liked the opening bowling pair of this match. Both Sajid and Rajib bowled aggressively and got us early wickets. I think we should stick with this pair for the ODI series too and have Mash come as the first change. If Sajid-Rajib can take care of McCullum, How, and Fulton, we will have Mash-Razzak to deal with Taylor, Oram, and Styris.

Mash- albeit, slightly unfit- is still the best we got by a long shot! I think Shahadat can come as the first change. If Mash is in the 'mood' and finds his rytheme and swings it both ways at pace, he would be lethal in NZ conditions. And from the other end Saj just keeps it steady and tight. This right and left openning combo will create pressure on the top order and should pick up early wickets. If any of the two is wayward in their openning spell- in comes Shahadat, immediately!

Exciting- at least on paper!!!?

good to see they all passed 135 KPH mark.
Wish Shahadat could ball over 140kph frequently.

On A funny note they showed mehrab hossain sr's stats when mehrab came out

and when ash hit a 6 to fine leg when the ball was nearly an offside wide to michael mason, they connected to stephen fleming and he said "they arn't bowling badly, just can't bowl to that" and then he jokely yells " good luck mace"

Didn't know Farhad is that fast. That's pretty good.

Based on this performance, I wouldn't mind dropping JO and replacing him with Mash. That way, we'll have a pure allrounder in Farhad who is certainly a million times more useful than JO.

IMO, Sajid/Shahadat/Farhad should be used for the rest of the series. Sakib was beaten mercilessly. He should play purely as a batsman and sometimes for giving breaks to the bowlers.

for once everything clicked in this game. bowling, fielding and then good batting. good partnerships.

On a different note, I dont know why we have to magnify every little mistake JO does even tho nobody here (may be except for nzfan or Miraz, who saw the game) can tell it was his mistake. Even if it was, same thing happens to the best of the fielders. JO is one of the better out fielder in the team. I dont know why he was in the team tho.

Brilliant stuff Nocturnal and jisaan!
And thanks a lot Miraz bhai for informing us about the speed of our trios. I had watched Sajidul in NCL, and I figured it out that he can deliver in the range of mid 130s. So his speed came to me as no surprise. But never in my deepest imaginations I thought Farhad would clock 135 kmh!!

I think our batting worries are still far from over. From what we have seen in the practice matches (including the 20/20 match), the team can get momentum going until about 30 overs, the question still remains whether they can keep it going beyond that point.

understood your point about JO's fielding but his inclusion was very questionable that's why I was a bit skeptical about him - nothing serious

I see this game played and won as an outcome of successful team effort, game plan, not losing the seight despite key batmen were out (run out, rather) and keeping average needed. I smel something Australian. Good job Coach and the team. Keep it up.
