Ganguly banned for six matches.
Sourav Ganguly has been banned for six matches after India fell behind with their over-rate yet again today.
Chris Broad, the match referee, informed the Indian team management before they announced the squad for the remaining two matches. Rahul Dravid will captain the side in Ganguly's absence.
"This is the second match in succession that India has not bowled its overs within the required timeframe and no excuse was offered by the captain," Broad said in a statement. "I made Ganguly aware of the potential penalties at the previous hearing and it is unfortunate that this warning was not heeded."
In addition to the ban, Ganguly, as captain, was fined 30% of his match fee for the slow over rate. The other Indian players were fined 15% of their match fees.
Goutam Dasgupta, the BCCI's joint secretary, said that he had yet to receive official notification.
Ganguly was fined 70% of his match fee after the previous game at Jamshedpur, and has been punished for being a repeat offender. At a hearing conducted at the ground at the end of the game Ganguly was penalised and as this is his second breach of this provision within 12 months, the penalty is automatically upgraded from Level 2 to a Level 3 breach under the ICC Code.
Sridharan Sriram, who claimed five wickets, including a hat-trick, in Tamil Nadu's win in the semi-finals of the Ranji one-day tournament today, was included in the side in Ganguly's place. The selectors also decided to pick Anil Kumble for the final two games, and have left out Irfan Pathan.

When was it settled? Shouldn't it be "they are trying to settle the unsettled team"?

Maybe, if you want to see it that way.
When we first knew about the 6 match ban, we didn't know that he is allowed to play the 5th ODI

Well looks like Dada will have to serve his six month ban. The ICC has rejected Ganguly's appeal. Also ICC cheif excecutice Malcom Speed has said that the 5th and 6th ODI's that occured agaisnt Pakistan will count as the first 2 matchs in his ban. This means that Dada has 4 more games to go.
Although Ganguly must be frustrated by this, me and many other fans think that this is a blessing in disguise. He now has time to get his form back. Also his absence did not affect India as they lost those 2 games.
The source is from the BBC.

Nah. I am among the pessimists. The Ganguly/Wright era is over. It was the finest in India's cricket history.
The middle order, which peaked in 2003/4, is well on the way down. Yuvraj and co can never be like VVSL when he is in form, or even Ganguly. The bowlers do well only when they have enough runs to back them up. Medium pacers are back where they were five years ago.
I expect a few bleak years ahead.

Ganguly's appeal declined... but they are counting the two matches he sat out as apart of the ban... he has to sit out for four more matches.
