England's brightest youngsters set out in search of World Cup glory in Bangladesh on Saturday determined not to suffer the same pitfalls that their successful predecessors experienced six years ago.
The 1998 vintage of England's Under-19s defied all expectations by winning the tournament with victory over New Zealand in the final at Johannesburg and lifted spirits that they could graduate and become similar successes with the senior side.
But in the years since, the line-up which claimed that seven-wicket triumph at the Wanderers have struggled to convert that promise into runs and wickets at the highest level.
Only four members of that side have progressed to represent the senior England side and none of them have established themselves.
