Hotels in Dhaka
Right, so about a week left for me now and I have suddenly realized - Deshey giye thakbo
koi ?
Baap has 3 lands scattrered across Dhaka but they only have tinsheds. I am not willing to live at a relative's as they turn unwelcoming after the first day. Can anyone recommend me any good 4* or 5* hotels near Dhanmondi, which are bang-for-buck as well ?
The best priced one with good reviews seems to be The Best western La Vinci.
Regency has bad reviews - mouldy walls, rooms with no windows, room with windows have unclean windows, you cant see out.
Sheraton is undergoing refurbishment until 2016.
Radisson is a ripoff! £200/night!

I dont think there is any 5* hotel in Dhanmondi area, no sure about 4* too.
You can try 'Washington Hotel' at Gulshan 1. Its a decent one at the heart of Dhaka.
56 Gulshan Avenue, Mir Shawkat Road | Road No-132, Gulshan-1, Dhaka City 1212, Bangladesh
http://www.washingtonbd.com/
Got good reviews too

You mention 4-5 star, which is doable, but then you mention near Dhanmondi, not so doable. Also how about giving an upper limit in terms of room price?
Just go stay at the Platinum Suites - Banani Road # 11. More of a serviced apartment vibe. Studio rooms start at $150, free wifi etc etc...plus great location. Restuarants...ice cream joints, not that far from Apollo/United if you happen to get sick Plus not THAT far from Dhanmondi either.
I'm a big fan of Platinum Suites(never had a bad experience there, and I've spent a total of 15-20 nights there over the years).

They have an ambala inn next to rifles square in dhanmondi(my bad, shimanto square now), think rooms are $60 a night there...but I know absolutely nothing else about it.
It's more of a 2-2.5 star deal, but servicable seeing as the location is pretty good.

More motel than hotel...but opposite to the lake, heart of dhanmondi, relatively cheap too.

100 quid, 4 star, close to dhanmondi - sonargaon would just about squeeze into that criteria with their basic rooms.
But when you add in tax, service charge etc, it'll push you over your threshold. But it's the only one that comes to mind, with your particular set of demands.

It would have been my 1st, 2nd and 3rd recommendation, but doesn't fall in line with his budgetary limits or preferred location.

For a stay of 8 nights ( 2 , I will be out of Dhaka, so no point in booking 10 days together! ) :
THE BEST WESTERN LA VINCI - £309
PAN PACIFIC - £771
WESTIN - £982
RADDISON - £1420

I'd go with F6_Turbo's suggestions under the circumstances and constraints.

In no particular order I usually take the leydeyz to:
-Radisson
-Westin
-Sarina
-Sheraton (ex)
-Sonargoan
-Hotel Purbani
-Forgot the name, near Gulshan-2 goal chokkor
and yes,
-Hotel Loveinn
But I am sure most of them have been mentioned here more or less.

There are a good number of guest houses in Gulshan Banani area which are of decent quality. You might try them if it suits your taste. Price would be very reasonable.

That's what I wantd to say. Many feel more comfortable in these guest houses than the hotels in Dhaka.

I have now booked Sonargaon.
Went for a Premier king room .. amar sofay ghumaitey hobey but no upay.
Paid $828 for 4 nights. Registered for their loyalty program and saw the special 7 day advance booking option. Regular rates are $100 more and the 7 day advance isnt visible.
Will be visiting village for 3 nights after this and then come back and stay at a relative's for another 3 nights.
