Thumbs down Media Restrictions for IPL

Media restrictions for IPL. What is the point of this? This is just sad.

Quote:
Editorial operations of cricket websites, including Cricinfo, in covering the Indian Premier League will be severely restricted despite a considerable climbdown by the league on its accreditation guidelines for the print media and news agencies. A revised set of guidelines issued by the IPL on Tuesday offered major concessions to the print media and agencies but barred cricket websites from covering matches from the ground and using pictures provided by photo agencies.
Cricinfo, the world's largest cricket website with nearly ten million regular users, will have to, according to Lalit Modi, the IPL commissioner, buy images from a syndication service that will be provided by the "American company" that has bought the portal rights for the IPL. No conditions have been specified yet for this service.

$$$$

Modi first attempted to squeeze the bucks out of print, television and web media, but since that didn't work, he had to back off off the restrictions on newspapers. But he will try to bring them back at the next opportunity.

But his divide and rule seems to work well because newspapers have decided go back on the boycott. Commenting on the newspapers' action to cover IPL and not bother about other media, in his blog, Prem Panicker quoted Martin Neimoller on the dilemma faced by ordinary Germans during the Nazi era :

Quote:
They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

I see that you're back. But really, your parents aren't probably doing a good job in blocking "mature" people's sites on your computer.

What a pity.

I'm excited about the IPL. It's a shame that more bangladeshi players weren't able to make a little extra money from it.

What sucks is that the IPL will be run by the same jacka$$es that run the BCCI and all they're after is money and nothing else. What a joke this media restriction is.

Modi is a dumb idiot... first he comes up with 'fair play award' - seriously, how soft and pansy is that notion -

and now he is restricting the materail used by the media around the world. All he is doing is pissing off the media and as a result media around the world are only going to be negative about the IPL. He is a moron. They get plenty of money from tv rights + sponsorship. Some people are too greedy.
