Default Dhaka is an absolute mess

Too many cars. Too many rickshaws. Too many people. Traffic jams happen from 8 AM to deep into the night. This is the most unproductive atmosphere imaginable.

As a solution, I propose to send half the people of Dhaka to gulags in the Sylhet haor area. Where's Stalin when you need him?

I also propose to perform mandatory vasectomy on all adult Bangladeshi males. Enough is enough. We cannot have any more children in this country. People should be taxed so heavily for having children, that they will have to think twice before even contemplating about having a child.

That's because we have this lust for urbanization and trying to be on par with "developed" countries. Sadly, if more cars brings more jams and crowdedness that's not a sign of development. We should have been content with who we were. It's like a person who thinks buying a mansion will make him rich (given: he has money) only to find out his management skills are soo poor that his house becomes a mess. But, if he were to be content in a nice, small, cosy condo and chim-cham kore thakto that would show the real "richness" in his character....

5 tremors in Dhaka today between 5.16pm and 6.21pm.
As we are not doing anything except helping increase the polution level- nature will do the cleaning....it's coming- The Big One

Tremors rattle Dhaka, surrounds

Sat, Sep 20th, 2008 10:42 pm BdST
Dhaka, Sept 20 (bdnews24.com) – Mild tremors rattled Dhaka and its neighbouring areas Saturday evening, seismologists confirmed.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department and the Earth Observatory Centre at Dhaka University said a series of tremors were recorded.

Professor Syed Humayun Akhter, director of the observatory centre, said they recorded up to five tremors, while the met department said it recorded just one quake with a series of aftershocks.

According to the Earth Observatory, the tremors were felt between 5.16pm and 6.21pm, with the third being the strongest, registering 4.4 on the Richter scale at 5.51pm.

Professor Akhter said the epicentre of the quakes were up to 70 kilometres north-east of Dhaka.

Abdul Mannan of the meteorology department said a 4.8 magnitude quake took place at 5.16pm. The epicentre of the tremor was in Brahmanbaria, 76 kilometres east of Dhaka.

He said "shocks can take place before and after the quake."

bdnews24.com Narayanganj and Tangail correspondents reported the quakes were felt in the two districts.

bdnews24.com Chandpur correspondent said two tremors were also felt at 5.55pm and 6.20pm in that district.

Having some problem of your own, Arnab?
If not, lead us the way. Show us your vasectomy certificate, we'll think of it.

I think Dhaka is a relative Mess.

When you go back home from abroad.... its looks like a total mess....
After you stay for a while.... its looks like a mess only when you face the traffic jaam

When you continue to stay for more than 5 years......it does't bother you a bit.

That's what chacha was doing through decentralization, that started in 88/89. But we all believed Hazrat Hazina & Khaleda to remove him and bring these messiahs.

That is your perceptual mess which can be relative. But dhaka is an absolute mess. As always I have to give examples to all of you intellectually challenged members here. If you enter a room (your room) full of raw goo, you smell it initially (u feel nasty), then your olfactory receptors start to shut down at which point you don't smell it anymore (looks nasty but ok), and as time passes, it starts to actually look like an art (you are part of this goo now). YOur perception to the goo changed but the mere fact that it's a goo haven't changed.

Got it? ok - And yes ammar is right, my life has been fulfilled with this post.

And 3 is a 3, it can be smaller relatively to 4 but it also can be bigger relative to 2 but it is still a 3. So dhaka - an absolute mess is correct.

Obviously I have too much time now (this is however a relative term because what I see as too much time is probably bathroom break from banglacric ket for some of you in this board.

I have lived 24 years of my life in Dhaka, and this is the worst mess I have ever seen.

Funny, I didn't feel a thing. I was stuck in a traffic jam and the incessant blaring of horns completely took over my sensory system. All I was thinking about was how to line up the jam-making culprits with no sense of driving rules and brushfire them into oblivion. Or better, line their heads up on the curb, wear a heavy boot and then crush their gobor-filled skulls one by one.

Have mercy. Have patience. If you can't then be the first one and lead others to where you wanted to send them.

Not too different from any major US city during rush hours, except for rickshaws being replaced by more cars. If you consider the fact that Dhaka is not just the financial heart of the country, it is also the center of everything from politics to business to education to administration - not too surprising.

Are you going to stay in Dhaka, or are you willing to relocate yourself?

Why don't you show the way? Or do you not need it due to predated natural intervention?

Anyway, overall a very nonsensical post that betrays your inherent stuck-up attitude.

Dhaka is 110% mess right now. Dhaka has reached it's limit of population with the no of vehicles it can take. Unless we can develop some alternative mass transportation systems like under ground rail way, I don't see any prospect for this city.
