Default Stats Galore: Bangladesh!

New Stats: ODI (Percentage of success per match) Here is the success rate!:

Tamim Iqbal (22%)
Shakib Al Hasan (22%)
Nasir Hossain (28%)
Mohammad Ashraful (13%)
Mushfiqur Rahim (11%)

(The success percentage represents how likely our players are to score between 50-100 runs per match)

- Clearly mushy has less chance to score between 50-100 runs per match compared to Nasir!

Comparable Stats:

Virender Sehwag (21%)
Sachin Tendulkar (31%)
Hashim Amla (44%)
Jacques Kallis (32%)

- clearly it can be seen for top players they have an percentage average of 30%.

You're right about Ash and Mominul. I didn't even want Ash in this series. So I won't even go there. As for Mominul, after seeing the 1st two games, I wanted him dropped.

For Tamim, this was a very erratic series. Normally, he takes the pressure of the team with his flying starts before getting out. This time, he was uncannily cautious for some reason.

In conclusion: Tamim stays in the team. Mominul stays out of the team. Ash stays out of the team indefinitely.

I reckon Sehwag is worse than Tamim in this department.

Tamim needs to rotate strike! But, he just wants to sit and wait and go for a big one.

Here's the corollary thread where the ability of our batsmen to score singles and hence rotate the strike is discussed:

That has been a big common problem for Bd players, specially Tamim.
The only players capable are Sakib,Nasa & Mushy( he improved)

Tamim should just stick to playing his strokes and hitting boundaries as long as he can. There is no point in batting 20 overs to score 35 runs at a sub 50 strike rate. That too against Zimbabwe on a flat track like Queens.

When he said "this is how I bat and sometimes it will be ugly" people jumped on him. Tamim is not a grafter. He will never face 300 balls in a Test like his brother or 400 like Sir Ash.

He needs to be told to do his thing, pure and simple.

it's not possible to play strokes or hit boundaries in some situation, specially when the opposition bowlers are bowling very well at you like Vitori/JArvis on 3rd ODI, he needs to rotate the strike to release some pressure, find gaps, take singles, avoid dot balls, that's all.

Mushy was very mediocre in his early days. when he began his career, he was very ordinary, but after there was improvement in his performance since 2010.

Well, your updated stats seem misleading for obvious reasons now. Specially when you look at the replies that follow.

I don't think the stats are misleading! in fact even today Mushy fails to score 50 to 100 runs! and the chance of him doing so is still 11% per match. Can you let me know when he last scored a 50 or 100?

Dot ball percentage doesn't matter as such, what is far more important is the strike rate.

Suppose a batsman plays 10 deliveries, blocks 8 of them and hits 2 sixes in the in the remaining 2 balls. His dot ball % will be 80, while SR is 120

U
I agree with strike rate being a more effective analysis of a players merit than using a dot ball percentage. True that dot balls do add to the pressure, but international batsmen back themselves to hit boundaries whilst top players look to put pressure on the opponent by suddenly scoring say 17 in an over when he had been going for an economy rate of 2.80 prior that over.

What Tamim has is self belief not seen in any top 3 batsmen from Bangladesh. His ability is backed up by good statistics with a healthy strike rate of roughly 80. A play
er of Tamim's quality can be seen by his ability to constantly score 50's, which is something only Shakib and Nasir seem to have at the moment to in the current Bangladesh team.

Have belief in Tamim, he's shown the signs of a truly unique talent. He isn't Gayle nor is he Sehwag, for he is Tamim Iqbal. His own playing style is different to any other batsmen in the world at the moment. Great hand eye coordination, good balance and class (which is believe separates him from the gayles of this world, who have immense strength - not to say Tamim isn't strong, rather he has more finesse and technical correctness about his shots).

Don't forget this is only a 24 year old batsmen here we are talking about, he will learn a lot about himself as a batsman if he focuses, and if he does , by his prime (28-32) he could be one of the world best batsman in all formats of the game
