While Afghanistan does boast a decent spin attack, their batsmen in general are very poor skillwise. We have batsman capable of scoring big runs.

I would go with the following XI:

Saif Hassan
Shadman
Shanto
Mushfiq
Shakib
Riad
Litton(keeper)
Nayeem Hasan/Miraz
Taijul
Ebadat Hossain
Abu Jayed Rahi

I personally believe the pitches should be less spin friendly, as that would nullify their spinners to a degree and obviously our batsman can better handle their spinners. My worry is that our top 3 is very much inexperienced.

I think we are definitely ahead. We have experience of playing this format quite a bit. Only worry is that our top order looks relatively weak.

I would go with

Saif
Shadman
Shakib
Mushy
Shanto
Riad
Litton
Miraz
Taijul
Ebadat
Rahi

I think this is the best possible XI we have right now. Mominul doesnt inspire much confidence AT ALL.

As for T20Is, i would go with:

Litton
Afif
Shakib
Mushy
Yasir Ali
Riad
Shabbir
Saifuddin
Nayeem
Mustafizur
AH Rony

I would like to drop Soumya but knowing BCB they will pick Soumya.

The absolute lack of interest I have for this series just about sums up the state of Bangladesh cricket right now..

Afghanistan A beat comprehensively BD A recently and won the unofficial test series as well.

https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/...-in-bdesh-2019

Trust me it will not be easy for BD to win against Afghanistan. All the test matches BD won at home bcause of our spin bowling not because of our batsmen. Our batsmen are consistantly inconsistent in most cases.

Why are you excluding mominul? He is the second highest scorer for us in test in last 1 year. Here is my 11:

1. Saif Hassan
2. Shadman
3. Mominul
4. Mushfiq
5. Riad
6. Shakib
7. Liton(keeper)
8. Nayeem
9. Mehedi Miraz
10. Taijul
11. Abu Jayed Rahi / Fizz

12. Shanto

Bench: Fizz, Imrul

I really want to try Saif ahead of Imrul before the real test championship game. If Fizz is fit to play, then rest Rahi. Tried really hard to include Shanto... but cant seem to replace anyone.

What are the best positions for Riad, Mominul, Mushfiqur and Shakib - ultimately batting heavily depends on those four performing well.

Earlier posters positioned Riad too low which may hurt.

This is my batting order:

1. Saif Hassan
2. Shadman
3. Mominul
4. Mushfiq
5. Riad
6. Shakib (C)
7. Liton(keeper)

The reason I placed Shakib at # 6 is because he is also expected to bowl 25+ overs. If captain prefers batting at #5, he can push Riad down to 6. If Mushy is not keeping, he should bat at 4 as he is our best player against spin (Think Rashid Khan). We need openers for 1 and 2 and Mominul did enough to keep his number 3 position.

Another reason for putting Riad at number 5 is that in last one year, he scored 571 runs playing 11 innings at an average of 57.10. He is also the highest scorer for BD during this period.

BCB will not dare making a spin friendly wicket against AFG. At most, they will take three spinners. My guess is that Soumya will be there as well as the third seamer.

My XI:

Jahurul
Shadman
Momin
Mushfiq
Shakib
Liton+
Soumya/Ariful
Miraz/Nayeem/Rahi (if the pitch has good amount of grass)
Taijul
Taskin/Ebadat (whoever in better shape atm)
Fizz

Taskin and Ariful should not be anywhere near the side. Same for Jahurul.

My XI would be:

Imrul
Shadman
Momin
Mushfiq
Mosaddek
Shakib
Riyad
Liton
Miraz
Taijul/Nayeem
Rahi/Ebadat

dont understand why Mithun is picked.. This series was an ideal chance to get someone like Saif a debut.

My starting 11 would be,

Shadman
Soumya
Mominul
Shakib
Mushy
Riyad
Liton
Miraz
Taijul
Rahi
Ebadat

Dont really see the point of playing 2 seamers if the conditions are expected to be what it was last few test matches at home. However, I do hope the surface offers something for the seamers and we can play 2 of them. Liton must keep and hence I put him down the order

So, if we keep making rank turners and playing 1 pacer per match at home; why/how would we expect our pacers to hunt in pack when we play abroad? Furthermore, we don't get to play tests let alone a full series abroad.

When proven failures like Taskin, Soumya, and Mithun get picked over Juhurul and Khaled Ahmed, I can see a test loss coming up against AFGA.

I rather see the management letting Mushfiq have the gloves and letting Liton open with Shadman. It will be ridiculous if they let Soumya to open in a Test match (I will be ok to see him at #6-7 as an allrounder).

Taskin's selection does not seem all that unreasonable. Khaled has been out with a freak injury, and Taskin showed in India (A-team tour) that he can bowl long spells and can be entrusted as the lead pacer in multi-day matches.

I guess Mithun is picked based on his ability to play spin. I rather see Mosaddek picked over him though.

I doubt they will make rank turners given they're fairly scared of Afghan spinners. That's why they prolly left out Fizz who is not effective on grassy pitches.

I can fairly confidently say they will go with two SLAs, given Afghans have only one left-hand bat. Nayeem's exploits on turning tracks should not matter much, he's prolly there as injury cover for Miraz (Miraz got injured in a training session).

I actually secretly want Taskin to come back. May be not in test cricket, but in LOI.

From this squad, my XI pick would be:

Shakib
Mushfiq+
Mosaddek
Soumya
Miraz/Nayem
Taijul
Taskin
Rahi

Unfortunate for Saif.

For the declared team, I would play both SS and Liton. Here is my updated XI from the team:

1. SS
2. Shadman
3. Momin
4. Mushy
5. Mahmudullah
6. Shakib (C)
7. Liton (WK)
8. Naim
9. Taskin
10. Taijul
11. Rahi

12. Mosaddek

I see no place in test for Mithun with his technique. Miraz is recovering from an injury so lets rest him for Naim. Taskin edges ahead of Ebadot for performing in practice match. Hard to rest anyone for Mosaddek unless we want to play one bowler short. I think 4 full time bowlers + Shakib is the way to go.

Khaled had knee surgery. Thats why he wasn't even in the 35 man prelim squad. I had thought selectors just left him out.

Did Taskin pick up many wickets in the A team tour to India?

No ODI in this tour. Plus Mash himself asked not to bother him for next few months while he keeps collecting paychecks from BCB.

He took a fifer in his last innings in that tourny, before being called to Lanka.
