Yes, though rarer. But the resultant cancer can be more morbid.

Dark skin 'does not block cancer'

Sunscreen can block harmful rays

Contrary to common perception, people with dark skin are more likely to die from skin cancer than those with fairer skin, warn US researchers.

Although the disease is less common, when it does occur it is typically more aggressive and diagnosed later, which leads to more deaths, they explain.

The Cincinnati University work is a warning to anyone who wrongly assumes skin tone makes some immune to cancers.

Experts advise people of all races to protect their skin from sun damage.

Siddons may be asked to produce medical clearance certificate

Bipin Dani

http://www.cricdb.com/archive/international/news/detail.php?nid=2155

Bangladesh national coach Jamie Siddons - who underwent cancer surgery on last Wednesday, will be asked to produce Medical Clearance Certificate before he resumes his coaching stint with the tigers. This was revealed by one of the top BCB officials.

"Look, we don't want to take any chance with the foreigner in this country and our medical committee (headed by Zahid Hussain) will ensure everything is alright with Siddons to continue his stint with the tigers," source told Cricdb from Dhaka.

"So far I am not asked to bring any such papers but there will be no problem from my side to submit medical papers to the board", Siddons responded exclusively from Australia.

Siddons was first diagnosed with skin cancer on his forearm and it was then spreading down near the eyes. "No, I was not scared when first was told about this disease just before our team went on the West Indies tour. I was determined to take it step by step. I decided to undergo surgery with plastic surgeon Dr. Bayley, whose parents are Sri Lankans," he said from his Brisbane residence.

Siddons medical expenses will not be born by the BCB. "The board arranged for my travel ticket to Australia (from Zimbabwe directly) and I am happy with it. I also have health insurance which will take care of medical surgery expenses", he said.

"I am fast recovering and hoping to be with the team in two weeks time". Captain /s and members of the Bangladesh team are yet to send a post-surgery "Get well soon" message to their coach. "I have received few calls from my coaching staff and our team did wish me (in Zimbabwe) before I left for Australia, Siddons concluded.

Members of BCB's cricket operations committee are in touch with their coach, it is learnt here. Siddons contract with the board expires in November and he may hope for the extension till 2011 World Cup.

Players should wish their coach as early as possible.

Yes, we are both in India... we both enjoy the place and people. I only recently came to spend time with him and work here as well.
