Captaincy Rumor
Prothom Alo reports, the new captain will be selected and announced in next 2 days.
Their source informed 2 possibilities.
One, Habibul Bashar will be the Test Captain while Khaled Mahmud will continue as the One Day Captain.
Second, Habibul Bashar will be the Captain for both forms of the game.

Hasib, friend, give it up about Bashar being destroyed by captaincy. Let him get destroyed, then you can wail "I told you so".
Sujon as one day captain at this particular time is like putting Amit in charge of the ICC.

The only thing that will ultimately decide Sujon's fate is dependent on whether or not we need both Mushfique Babu and Sujon both in the same team - in the final eleven.
And if they decide that Sujon can contribute with both the bat and ball, then there is nothing to discuss - he will be the (one-day) captain.

please don't take it as a pro-Mahmud post. IMO Mahmud is not even close to test-standard. But do we have any pace bowlerr sans Mashrafee who is capable of taking wickets in Test matches. Tapash is our second-best option. But I don't think Tarek Aziz, Anwar Munir is any better than Mahmud. May be they will be better in 2/3 years but not now. And why all the fuss about Habibul Bashar's captaincy? There are lots of example of players who are not natural leader leading test team. Inzamam is doing OK! Hasan Tilakratne is not doing too bad either. And how do you people know that his batting will suffer? It might! but you never know unless you give him a chance! May be his batting will flourish even more! May be he will start getting runs in limited over matches too!

If it does happen...
I am only trying to add to what Optimist and Rajputro has said...
If Khaled Mahmud is given the ODI captancy and Bashar the Test captancy, then it might give Bashar the edge to perform at the ODI level as well. We all know that Mahmud is not good enough to be in the test team, and hence he has captained the test side, and now its going to be upto Bashar to prove everyone wrong and turn the heat on at the ODI level as well.

Hey, I am from India and I follow Bangladesh cricket regularly. Is Khaled Mahmud a respected cricketer in Bangladesh domestic circleS? I've always thought it's a better idea to make rafique thh captain for abt 3 years, and groom Rajin Saleh in the meantime. Saleh looks quite impressive!

Welcome Saurav. Khaled Mahmud has earned his share of 'respect' in domestic cricket. He is not a bad soul. But, not unlike many others before him in many feilds, he does not know when to let go. An honorable 'retirement' after the thrilling Pakistan test series would have left a memorable fellow who did his part developing cricket in Bangladesh. Now, with his inadequate skills clearly exposed in the intenational cricketing arena, coupled with his lack of moral fortitude to step up and remove himself, has led to him being booed in his home ground. The blame is not fully his. The selectors have failed to make bold decisions with regard to the captaincy. If it is his 'inspirational' presence, the selectors are loath to miss on the team bus, someone should make him the team manager!

If Khaled Mahmud's 'inadequate skills' is the real problem, why was he made the captain of the Test side without proving his merit in the arena of Test cricket? I understand that he is a one-day veteran, but was that a good enough reason for the Bangladeshi selectors to make him captain?

Where's Sham and Sameer with the right answers when you need them?

Let me take this opportunity to welcome you to the board, Saurav. Hope you will enjoy our company.
About Mahmud, he is not a bad player himself. His presence was noticable only few years ago. His performane is in the decline now as we seek to improve our oveall performace in the team. He was the best, in fact the only choice for the captaincy the time our previous captain resigned over irregularities as well as poor showing in the worldcup last year. At present we have a decent pool of players to fill in any gap that may show up in the national lineup.
Mahmud served his country very well when we needed more stabilization than anything else in the first place. And now that we are stabilized, he must follow the survival rule.

Yeah long story short, after the miserable world cup we fired our captain Khaled Mashud for negligence and misbehavior. Khaled Mahmud was called in to simply to fill the void as the seniormost player in the team, as he had good rapport with more or less all the players.
If you want to read more about why Khaled Mashud was sacked, go to the main page and click on the world cup probe report link.

I think Mahmud was made captain as the BCB didn't know what to do after the world cup.
