Cricket - Cricket will be included in next year's South Asian Games to be staged in Dhaka, a regional Olympic official said.
"India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal have already agreed to participate in cricket," Kutubuddin Ahmed, secretary-general of the Bangladesh Olympic Association, told Reuters after a meeting in Kathmandu on Monday. A Twenty20 competition at under-21 level would feature in the games for the eight-nation grouping, to be staged from Jan. 29 to Feb.9 next year, he added.
Games - Malaysia has launched a campaign to develop an elite group of athletes to win the country's first Olympic gold medal at the 2012 Games in London.
Seventeen competitors from badminton, archery and cycling have been picked for the "Road to London" programme, sports minister Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said at Monday's launch.
"We want to do better than the last Games," he said, according to local media. "We have set high expectations and we want this group to bring back the country's first gold medal."
Cricket - A dangerous pitch forced an Indian domestic one-day game to be halted, the domestic media reported, recalling last week's fiasco in Antigua which forced the second test between England and West Indies to be abandoned as a draw.
The game between Mumbai and Gujarat was halted in the seventh over before it was restarted afresh on an adjacent pitch in the western town of Rajkot, the reports said.
