Default Shall we be wary of this guy?

Perhaps by now its a known fact to us all that the two umpires, who will be officiating at Lord's on our first test against England are Daryl Harper and Krishna Hariharan. Krishna Hariharan will be the second lucky Indian umpire after Srinivas Venkatraghavan to officiate at Lord's. We all saw how he was at the IND-PAK ODI series. Several times he seemed unsure and were quick to declare a 4 or 6 and was even quicker to change his own decision. Despite all these i told myself that i hope he will do a better job at Lord's when we r playing England but to my amusement i came across this, after reading it u might feel that i'm simply being cynical but it seems to me that this guy is spineless and he keep changing his decisions,,check out the link and find it out yourself what he did at Kotla..........link

humm
sounds a little too concerning. but i hope he is going to realize that this is going to be in england and most of all in lords. so i am sure he will do his job more responsibly. and after all umpiring is part of the game and we have been victims of bad umpiring before also. i know its not very good. but thats part of the game. so we just have to go on with it. writing here is not going to change anything. we can just hope for the best.

Nicely said FRB! Nothing we can do about it, just hope for the best. I am sure umpires will do a great job.

He can't cheat in England but he would be wrong in many cases caz he is umpire with lil experience still a novice ......... He needs to grow up a beat as an umpire .

Hariharan made errors in calling LBWs several times during the last series he umpired. I saw him correcting his own decision several times. His calls for wides for deliveries down the leg side (swinging away) is almost automatic. So, he calls too many of those deliveries wide. He is not an experienced man for the job and it shows.

Yes, he could be a problem. Let's not forget Ashoka.

yeah thats the good point. it sounds weird though. but yeah you made a good point that making a late correction decision is better than a complete wrong decision. its awkward for an umpire to do that though. because players might loose their nerves if umpires keeps on doing that continously. and the chance of throwing bottles and eggs starts to increase when umpires does that. :P

Few decisions that he'd corrected were like calling 6 when it was 4 or vice versa, in those cases he got no choice but to correct his mistakes as the third umpire is watching them on TV replays & can let him know thru wireless phone. The fact is, he shouldnt be making those mistakes on the first place. So i m not quite sure how correcting those sort of mistakes are praiseworthy?

tao thik. karon umpiring kharap hole it always effects the morality of the players and discourages them. karon akta batsman jodi set hoye jai and tokhon take unfairly out dawa hoi then i am sure that will have a negetive impact on him when he will come to bat the next time. he will be probably more concerned about who the umpire is then who the bowler is.

i really think that our league umpires are much more better than ashoka. i seriously have doubts how he got into the international umpiring channel.

I dont think so mr-khan, i mean i hope we wouldnt need a 4th umpire but i guess we all saw the runout given of Yusuf Youhana on the 6th ODI by Hariharan as the 3rd umpire. Now if that keeps happening then surely we will need a 4th umpire

look at some example (match refree & umpire of india):
recent odi 6 (india vs pak)

25.6 Harbhajan Singh to Shoaib Malik, no run, RUN OUT! hit on the pad
trying to defended on the front-foot, ball rolls away behind the
stumps, dangerous quick single called for, Tendulkar comes in
quickly and scores a direct hit at the keeper's end, third umpire
called in, RED light flashes!

End of over 26 (5 runs) Pakistan 153/2 (RR: 5.88)
Harbhajan Singh 7-0-26-0
Yousuf Youhana 50* (59b 3x4 1x6) Shoaib Malik 53* (64b 6x4)

Pakistan 153/3, Partnership of 85
Yousuf Youhana run out (Tendulkar) 50 (59b 3x4 1x6)

was a brave decision, it was a close call, there was an element of
doubt there, when everybody thought that Youhana will get the
benefit of doubt the RED light flashed!
on Tv the Pakistan camp looked outraged by the decision
Inzi walks in

49.2 Agarkar to Inzamam-ul-Haq, OUT: another wide delivery outside the
off stump, Inzi goes after it and gets beaten by a LONG way, loud
appeal for caught behind and the finger goes up, umpire
Jayaprakash gets it terrible wrong! Inzi walks away shaking his
head

I saw both of those outs. Shoib Malik was in, there was no element of "doubt", everyone including the commentators were shocked.

The Inzy out - ball passed at least 6 inches away from the edge of the bat, only the wicketkeeper Dhonia appealed. It was given out at a very crucial moment of the game.

yeah inzi's out was the worst decision. that kind of out is just not acceptable from an umpire. i know mistakes can happen. but this is just too much. after all he could have consulted the leg umpire or even the third umpire. because that kind of decision just destroys the mood of the game.

U r right FRB,Hariharan made too many mistakes in a very short little career of his as an umpire. I hope he will do alright at Lord's. I'm a bit worried though.
