Default I want to say to Ashraful - U R NOT the best batsman in the team

If I meet with Ashraful right now, I would say to him the following straight forwardly:

"Ashraful, you are not the BEST batsman in the team. So, don't take the pressure of being the best batsman in the team. You are just a better than average Bangladeshi batsman with the average in the lower 20s (and in ODIs, it is even less than 20), so no need for you to be the most consistent batsman in the team."

i think u guys over estimate ashraful. he is simply not that good, otherwise he would have performed by now. 158 against india on a placid pitch, and when bd was sure to lose that match, can u rate that innings too high?

You probably didn't see that innings. That was without doubt the best Test innings played by a Bangladeshi batsman.

But one great innings in every 3 year and almost no run in the meanwhile is not acceptable by any means.

Both of you are right.. But it is important to show contempt on the field! Recall the SriLankans: they were criticized for their poor shot selection. I see the pattern, whenever a BD batsman (for that matter Ash) plays well we have all sorts of animation, to name a few .

So, let us for a change say, we are where we ought to be in the first 5 years; we need to play more and in the process make mistakes and maybe we will loose by a huge margin but our resolve will be to go on the field with a winning attitude. I think at this juncture our U-15 and U-19 are doing fairly well. So, let us just stay the course without being sassy.

Like Eddie Barlow, I am also getting tired of the criticism.

From the time BD became a test playing country, I have been hearing people talk about giving them at least 5 years to start becoming competitive. Now the same people are asking for another 5 years! I wonder how long it REALLY will take before BD starts playing like it deserves the test status. Anyways, it is sad to see a player like Ashraful, who has shown so much potential in the past, simply not helping the cause with his inconsistency.

Hope to see him play good cricket in the next matches.
He has the authority to score but need a cool head.
Surely he will come back.

No hook shot.
Play pull shot after scoring more than 25 runs.
Donot get impatient.
Enjoy your batting.
And success is on your way.

But 27 years old Al Shahriar still thinks the same way!!!

My point is we may have spoilt Ashraful badly by letting him busking in international glory so early which may or may not get corrected with age.

Our selectors should learn from this kind of cases. Next time they should throw a cricketer at the deep end of Test cricket only after making sure that he is mature enough to handle it, not because he carries immense "potential" to be next Tendulkar.

Excuse me, Mushfiqur Rahim has already been branded a 'Tendulkar' by some of the British media.

Nafees Iqbal and Aftab Ahmed also proving it right now that they're immature enough 'at the deep end of Test cricket'.

Shahdat Hossain has proven it and already out of the Bangladesh team for being immmature enough 'at the deep end of Test cricket'.

The only young player who is not getting too many chances at the International arena even after getting debut at a very young age is the spinner Enamul Junior, and as far as Bangladesh's tradition goes, spinners tend to come into the Bangladesh national side quite matured and after being an old guy (compared to other players of 19, 20 years of age). For example: Rafique himself played his first International match for Bangladesh at the age of 25.

FW you are being a bit too hasty. These guys are horribly immature no doubt but they would have been less so if they had had time to work out their maturity in proper first class environments. Until players are introduced a bit later after they have been battle tested, we will always get the same results.

I think Ashraful will be back.
