Default What about Australia\'s ODI Status???

Aussies just lost the 20/20 match to England by 100 runs. I saw the match on TV and believe me - they did not look a lot more comfortable than our BD batsmen did against the English pacers.

The margin was 100 runs in a 20 over match. So, by inference, it is a deficit of of 250 runs in a 50 over match. Imagine a headline like this -

England thrashes Australia by 250 runs in mismatched ODI
Aussie coach justifies their ODI status
English coach terms match as "waste of time"

All in fun, no need to point out the fallacy of my fantastical arguments.
:P

That means you are ready to eat up your own words. But, no shame, rather feel good.

This is just a 20-20 match. Anyone can lose at a 20-20 match.

Also losing by 250 is really unlikely. 20-20 is played differntly. Its all slog. ODI is much much much different.

aka is right.

20/20 is a lottery, I wouldn't look into this result to much.

I don't disagree with aka ... and I sort of pointed that out in my last sentence of the post.

But, lottery? I don't think so. English pacers looked really vicious. May be the Aussies were not taking England seriously - that is an argument I am ready to believe. But Lottery - no way.

even though it is a lottery, it may be that england has too much for australia this time. they have too many weapons and charged up. also australian side is ageing. ashes may very well be heading to england's way this time.:bald:

Same... Aussies losing by such a margin is a joy by its self. Add to the fact that this is right before Ashes and it was against their bitter rivals makes it all the more enjoyable.

Did anybody notice English batsmen were uncomfortable with the spinners. That is why, I blame our selectots not to play Enamul in the test. We should have inclided atleast 2 spinners.

I wouldn't say we were uncomfortable against the spin to be honest.

Spin always plays a part in 20/20 cricket if the bowlers can get it in the right spot, because it is hard to hit.

We looked bad against it because we were trying to hit boundaries and couldn't because Clarke and Symonds bowled so well.

We are not the best side against spin.

If you look at Englands batsman, Thorpe is the only one really proven against spin. Pietersen attacks it well but he is still unproven. Vaughan played Warne well in the last Ashes, but hasn't played a good innings in the subcontinet.

Aussies are just not used to this form of game. The english players play 20-20 games all the time in county cricket. This is Australia's 2nd hit at 20-20 (or 3rd may be). Anyone could see that they were trying to hit every delivery (which is clearly not the wise thing to do). On the other hand, England having all the experience knew what its like and took it easy. The openers took time...got settled in and then went for a hit. Aussies where trying to smash right from the first ball. Make no mistakes, the English are yet to face the real World Champs.

But I must admit, 5 wickets for 1 run is just rediculous !!!!

I can guarantee England will win over Australia in both form of games: ODI and TEST. English fan will have good time this summer.

But Can we win just one ODI ??

Australia will crush England, eventually - mark my words. They are only warming up - they only just arrived in England!

Just you watch, Australia will publicly humilate and psychologically damage this England team, and they will, again, slide down into the hole they came from!

To put icing on the cake, BD will also score a demoralising victory over this arrogant English team.

No one is going to ask for revocation of Australia's or England's Test or ODI status, regardless of how lopsided a contest is :P

And on the debate about who's going to win Ashes, all I dare say is -

This England team has a better chance of accomplishing something than any other English team over the last decade. The bowling attack is really accurate and pacey.

Wish I could see the future. Then I could pick a side in this Eng Vs. Aus debate.

But without fore-knowledge, all I can say is that the Australian team (except for Mr. Mighty Warne) and the Aussie Cricketing establishment has been much more supportive of BD than their English counterparts. So, my vote is for Australia to win Ashes ...
