Default What were our batsmen thinking??

Shahriar Nafees - Premeditated sweep, got yorked!

Habibul Bashar - Just hung his bat out there!

Aftab - Tried to play a wristy shot, got fooled by Symonds wrong 'un, fair enough, but atleast cover yourself!

Mashud - Another premeditated sweep!

Rana - I won't even get into this one!

Rafiq - Huge swipe!

Someone tell me, after the start we got, what was wrong with just playing straight, pushing the ball to mid-off and mid-on and taking singles till the 40th over? Who told them to go out there and and try to improvise, when it was absolutely unecessary? After surviving Lee and McGrath, getting bowled out by Hogg and Symonds like this is stupid.

I couldn't even wake up early enough to see any of this travesty. we were on target for a 250+ score at the 30 over mark! how can symonds and hogg be that dangerous? our spinners have nothing to bowl at...

Sham,

Mid on and mid off were both up close. Push singles to them and you're risking runouts.

It's interesting - Australia's quicks got belted, and their slow bowlers did the damage.

But Nafees is real, so the match is a net positive.

Plus me and a bunch of Australian television watchers got to see Ash and Nafees belt the crap out of Lee, McGrath and Gillespie.

Ian, I'm glad you guys got a chance to see your pacers belted around - but the thing is Nafees and everyone else are real enough - we already know this. They're just not mentally strong to sustain performance and avoid their schoolboyish mistakes for too long. At any point in the innings, a couple of them could have decided to just consolidate instead of swinging away, no matter where the close in fielders were. Even 200 would have been something to play from.

Salam!
I really coudnt understand whatever was going on....Again I let myself beleive that we were going good guns and was let down....

Thoroughly disgusted.......But on the plus side...as usual there were the usual bright spots of good batting from a few peopl....

It looked like all of them were chasing individiual records.......but its funny that when ever Bangladesh do well....its usually a team effort....barring a few incidents.....but then what do I know!

Last 8 wickets for 26 runs.

Last 5 wickets for 2 runs.

Last 4 wickets for ZERO runs.

Third highest score is 5.

I did not expect this low. They already lost whatever they gained from the tour so far.

1. Pathetic failure while trying to follow the game plan "keep wickets till 40 overs and hit out after that". Today's match shows how bad the batting still is when playing defensive!

2. Once again another sad example of making an rather ordinary opposition bowler (Simonds in this case) look huge and giving him his career-best figures (5-18).

I always though BD cannot play well against quality and accurate spin.

BD batsman closes their eyes a hits their bat as hard as they can look at Rafiq, complete dumb shot.

In addition to my above post: we may have no choice but to include Enamul Haque Junior in our SL tour because of the failures of our other bowlers - both pacers & spinners.

I was not too much in favor of including Enamul Junior to our One Day side just yet, because of being too expensive; but if we don't, then we may have to face more 10 wicket losses in ODIs in the near future.

Symonds and B Hogg are class ODI bowlers. None of our spinners are any close to them.... yet.

Whatmore's father is ill so he has missed the match.
But that does not mean the team has to take a day off as well.
This is just pathetic. What excuse does Bashar and his team has against such poor performance?

No excuse, we, the fans, should be realistic, our team needs 5 more years at least.

Last time I saw Bangladesh are batting with 110+ with 6 wicket in hand. I went to other floor to do some job and when I was back after 2 hours later, the match was finished!!!! Cant believe my eyes when I saw this cricinfo page!!! How can a team can get all out for 139 after a good start!!! Bangladesh always make someone hero from opponent, this time was no difference. Simply pathetic!! a bunch of losers!!

I still cant figure out what went wrong??? They played well Lee, McGrath, Gillespie but gave almost every wicket to Symonds and Hogg. How come BD players are so fragile with Spin bowlers? What happened to their mind today? inexcusable!

We lost 2 ODI for 10 wickets and one for 168 or 186? cant take anymore!

They just got complacent. A couple of good batting performances and a good start today and they thought they could get away with doing anything. Not everyone in the team is a Mohammed Ashraful and they need to realize that.

On a day that everyone went nuts, Ashraful looked like the most mature guy in the world, which is something! He did is usual take on anything short before the 15 overs were up, but once the field spread, he didn't play even one crazy shot which was very pleasing to see.

Ian, Ponting brought mid off and mid on back up after Aftab fell and he realized that he could set us up for those swipes across the line of the ball, and we gladly took the bait.

Its good that Ashraful has given our side confidence, but this kind of confidence we could do without! How else do you explain Rana's dismissal? Anyway, I'm not all that worried about that. As long as they play Rana in the lower order, he can do whatever he wants and when he scores runs it will be a bonus. If he was batting at 3 or 4 and played that shot, he would have been shot, by me!

I hope they learn something from this performance. When you get off to a good start against a great team, you still have to finish the innings well, not get cocky about being 112 for 2 and give it all away.

ps. Forgot to mention Javed Omar's dismissal in my first post on this thread, another swipe across the line to a full ball. Atleast it was against Lee and not Hogg!
