Default \'Pilot\' the Amazing!

I was just trying to have an idea about one of our recently most consistant dependable batsmen, Khaled Masud.. and what I found was just as I had expected. I assumed he must have been doing much better in batting in recent times than his early career and eventually have become a very appriciable batsman. He is a great example of what strong determination and hard work can do to a batsman's performance. But interestingly enough... we havn't really had much discussions about him as much as we hav had about even Kapali or Hannan!

Guess what... his career average in both ODI & Tests is just around 20. Whereas... here r his very recent performances.

Tests
26.00 in last 15 matches
27.64 in last 10 matches

ODIs
37.91 in last 20 Matches!!
52.75 in last 10 Matches!!!
62.50 in last 5 Matches!!!!

A few unbeaten innings do raise his average much higher. I just wish we had a few more consistants like him in the team!!

>> 37.91 in last 20 Matches!!

This is really a good one for even a Indian batsman.

He has been an awesome anchor for the team at number 6/7. Most experiend also.

Hope he stays till the next WC. I read somewhere, his contract with BCB expires this september.

He should retire after WC and then give the gloves to little Mashifiur Rahim.

Not surprising. Says a lot about the batting performance of the team generally.

umm wasn't Dhiman Ghosh the next big thing as far as keeping goes just until last year? Let's not forget Shahin Hossain who is a keeper as well I believe.

There has never been a doubt about Mashud's ability, determination and fighting spirit. There was no doubt about his leadrship qualities. He is the only captain we had who always led from the front. Certainly he had a failed WC campaign. But it was more to do with wrong team selection and irresposibility of the selected players. Although he is at the prime of his careerer, my fear is that the selectors will dump him soon. Not because of his performance, but because he is 'too old". In the eyes of our selectors any one over the age of 25 is too old, no matter even if he plays well. That is how they dumped Aminul Islam and others. That is how Atahar Ali Khan was dumped, even if his last ODI innings produced 82 runs. Now that Atahar is in the selectiion pannel, we may expect a better deal for Mashud; or may we?

I dont think Mashud will be replaced for a while. If he is who will replace him.... Rahim is way way way to young

Rahim is still a baby-faced kid - let him grow and learn before dropping him into the deep end of Test and ODI cricket. I predict Mashud will be playing for the next 2-3 years at least.

I hope the selectors will look at the performance, not the age. In BD 35 is called middle age (shame) on the other hand at 50 you are still pretty young in Aus/ UK. I am not suggesting Mashud should be playing at 50. But I am still skeptical that at 30 the selectors will regard him too old. I hope I am wrong.

Pilot has at least another four years in him. May be more. Part from his wicketkeeping and batting abilities, he is one of our most experineced players. He cannot be dropped or replaced as long as he continues his present form.
Now talking about Mushfiqur Rahim- he is still very very young. He should be groomed for another couple of years or more in the A-team level. There is no question about his abilities or talent. But we have to be careful not to throw him into the deep end too soon and destroy his confidence.

he is still preety young. he is 29 now. should have atleast 5 more years.

But i read an article where they were talking about his contract status with BCB expiring in a month and he hasnt heard anything about renewal from them.

Well.. that is one comment absolutely not correct about Pilot. As I mentioned in my post... he is among the vary rare consistant scorers of BD... you may also know that if you have been following him for long enough.

The key to Mashud's longevity has been his fantastic learning ability. He didnot rest on his laurels right from the ICC trophy days...continued to work on his game...especially his batting. In other words, he made full use of his opportunities and deserves to be where he is now.

I seem M. Rahim's prospect in the team more as a no. 6 batsman (even while pilot is playing) rather than WK+Batsman at the moment. In long run he may replace Pilot when he retires.

Yes! he is the only consistant batsman with some good cricket sense. I think he should be back to his old job leading the team, taking the responsibility from Bashar. What do u guys think.......

The way Bangladesh Biman is falling off the sky and sliding off runways, Pilot may be asked to steer that ship too. (Source: Hawa Bhaban)

At this point, Dhiman lacks temperament and Shahin lacks international exposure. But, yes, if Pilot carry on for another 3-4 years, lots of things can change by the time he retires. However, I believe Mushfiqur Rahim will establish himself in the national team by next two years as a specialist batsman, if not as a keeper.

khaled mashud pilot is the most valuable player in our team. time after time he saved us from getting embarrassed. so many times we saw our top order batsman failing horribaly but khaled mashud stood tall and helped us to get a decent score. i cannot imagine bangladesh team without khaled mashud. he will play for bangladesh for a long time. i think he can play until 2011 world cup.
