More than 1000 schools likely to take
part in three groups

For the second time this year the Bangladesh Cricket Board is holding the national school cricket tournament in mid-November which will
perhaps be the biggest school cricket competition ever in Bangladesh.
More than 1000 schools, with three age-group teams each, from every district of the country are expected to participate in the cricket carnival, informed the BCB.
The Game Development Committee of the BCB had introduced a new format in school cricket involving three age-group teams in the previous meet sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank.
However, the tournament was criticised as a few school teams from only Dhaka region participated in the tournament.
There will be three different age-group teams of each school – under-17, under-15 and under-13 teams – like the last tournament.
However, this time the schools will play at the district level and then the BCB will select a team to represent the district and thereafter the division.
‘Last time it was a pilot project and this year we are trying to involve more schools in the nationwide tournament,’ Carlton Bernadus, the game development programme manager of the BCB, told New Age.
‘That’s why the format should help find out the best talents from every part of the nation. The last year we found many talented players and this year definitely the number will increase because of the big involvement,’ said the Sri Lankan, a former St. Joseph’s and Colts CC cricketer.
He informed there will also be some foreign training opportunities for the emerging school cricketers after the end of tournament.
This year the BCB made an open invitation but each school should have a bank account. Registered schools will have an advantage naturally.
In the previous meet, the BCB spent around Tk 65 lakh for the tournament and the sponsors Standard Chartered Bank contributed Tk 35 lakh.
This year the budget will be bigger and the facilities for the teams will be also increased, assured an adviser of the BCB.
‘Earlier over 1000 school played in the national school cricket but this year we are expecting a record participation. We hope it will be a very disciplined and effective school tournament ever in Bangladesh.
‘We did not finalise anything but surely the schools will get many privileges and help
from the BCB,’ said the BCB adviser.

Wish i could be in one of those team... When i was in school there was only One competion where the best got the chance (even though most of them were over aged) and I wasn't that good anyway... but looks like any ram sham jodu modhu will get a chance to play now which is super for the bd cricket

BCB should give more imprtance to this tournament than any other cricket tournament. It will help our country in different ways. School boys will get something to be busy with besides boring studies.

It will find lot of talents from outside Dhaka for sure!!

Everything is fine. But I dont understand the reason why they dont start the premier league regularly. Once it was the main attraction in bangladesh. When cricket was not so popular in bangladesh even then it occur in every year. But now they almost forget about it.
It should be in mind that this is the only competition from a large number of player get enough money who are outside the national team.

Yes We r concentrating on the 1st class tournament National league. Thats alright. But from the national league players are not gettiing enough money.

I hope BCB will concentrate on this matter more deeply.

Wasn't it called Nirman school tournament or something like that. I guess it changed over years. However, you know the few bigger breeding grounds for cricketers in bd. Mymensingh was one of them in old days. And the school tournament was called that.
