Did anyone see this Ganguly comment anywhere else on the net? If not, I doubt about this Bhorer Kagoj comment because Bangladeshi Media sometimes publish "Home-made" report.

ganguly hasn't done anything of late...a 110 ball 50 is nothing.

ash deserved the spot he got.

ganguly is one of the games greatest, but he has missed his boat...if he gets any more ODI hundreds in less than 200 balls i will be surprised.

When players like Attapatu is placed on Stand by, we can not say Ashraful got his place based on performance. Look at Attapattu’s most recent ODI Scores:
65, 64, 26, 97*, 43, 01, 46, 111, 66, 04, 29, 70, 29
The average is more than 54 !!!!
So, there are many others players like atapattu who deserved that batting spot instead of Ashraful. I guess, Ashraful's inclusion was just to ensure participation from all Asian countries. It is not absolutely based on merit. I hope he gets chance to play at least once. Otherwise he will just have to finish his South Africa trip just by carrying drinks and towel into the middle instead of his bat.

"Ganguli" has a right to question , He has got 10,000 odd runs in odi .........but it could have been someone else who would have dropped from Pakistan or India and included him on that spot .

Attapatu defnitely deserves it, probably even as a captain at this point. As far as Ganguli is concerned, I would take Boycott's mother anyday over him. I don't know how he makes the Indian team.

He scores centuries agains BD, Kenya and Zimbabwe but rarely plays good agains quality opponents. Except the last Australia tour he has been doing little for a long long time.

Even the 50 he hit today in 110 balls were full of edges. Read the cricinfo report of the game. This was against Srilanka's second string bowlers with Vaas, the new lefty(?), Murali and Joysurya not playing. He still managed to screw up India's innings with his terrible strike rate. All the batsman who came late were under a lot of pressure to increase the RR.

Here is Ganguli's last 48 innings since the NZ tour in 2002. I took out Namibia, Kenya and Bangladesh. What do you think?

1124 runs in 48 innings. 2 not outs. 24.43 average.
6 half centuries and zero centuries.
He was washed up a long time ago. Only politics kept him in the team.

I think the selection policy and terms should more specific and clear, may be they are but we don't know the detail. If the selection policy is based on someone's career performance than it's not exiting and hopeful for the young and promising players, as well as fans. because all the time the best 11 will be full with Lara, Tendo, Inzi, Gangu, Gilcrist and co. for example. It is kind of boring watching same players who is expected to perform well in a best 11 match, and nothing new for excitement. But in a sense of grooming young and promising players, there is no room for them if the selection policy remain based on career performance.

ICC should select Asian, African, European, Oceanian and world best 11 every year, or based on one year back performance before the selection, so that each player including young can join with the best 11, and get rewarded and boosted based on their performance. And the quality of the best 11 performance will remain standard, because those selected players would be naturally in form, since they has been selected on their recent performance.

Well, Bhorer Kagoj says "Source:Internet".
Internet is very big thing. I read almost all newspapers about Danguly's reaction, but never found he mentioned anybody's name. It would be very nice, if Bhorer Kogoj gave the actual link of Internet(!)

dada raised question on selection criterion, he never mentioned ashraful's name. it was anandabazar of kolkata who first mentioned ashraful name....
well, you know how bias anandabazar is!

Unfortuately.. all the BD newspapers mention Internet sources like that. They never bother to mention the actual news source site. Quite irritating!

We r making it bigger than it actually is and in any case its wayyyyyyyy too early to even take Ashraful's name in the same breath with Ganguly. So slow down some of the Ganguly bashers & Ash admirers.

don't get me wrong ganguly is one of the greats, but he isn't anymore. ash is now better than ganges now.

and how many of attapattu's innings are run-a-ball match winners? or 20 ball 50s?

Some of our bd supporters r too much sometimes! So now u r daring to compare Ash with Ganguly and Attapattu? Without any doubt Ash is a real talent but hold on there. Its true that Ganguly looks like he has past his prime but still its unfair to compare him with Ash in that manner. Instead of answering your questions i must ask how many run a ball match winner did Ash played apart from the century against Australia? How many 20 ball 50's does he have apart from the opne against England?

Both India and Ganguly are not doing well in ODIs for a long time. In fact, the whole Indian batting lineup haven't done well in this period. It's very unfair to blame only Ganguly.

For example, his 50 against Srilanka was a scratch one, and not even against full strength SL bowling lineup. But what did the other batsmen do? Were they successful against the same bowling line-up? Sehwag's 32 was scratchy as well, Laxman couldn't do better and Dravid lasted only one ball. Indian batting in ODIs didn't improved in the matches where Ganguly didn't play.

ganguli is a poor batsman at present , he shouldnt even be in the current indian side (his 110 ball 50 actually caused indian loss to srilanka), let alone asian XI.

players are not selected by how many runs he made but at what form is a player at present. ash is one of the brightest prospects at the moment and included justly
