Default 6 Openers in the team

There are 6 opening batsman in the 20 member team.

Number 1 - Javed Omar, a genuine opening batsman, recent form is good against South Africa in test matches at home, but he did not score much against Australia in the only ODI that he had probably played against them.

Number 2 - Mohammad Ashraful, an opener at the Age Group level, but has batted in the middle order for the most part of his International career. He has always liked to bat as an opener in the one dayers, but only recently during the World Cup that he actually started to open in the one day matches regularly.

Number 3 - Al Shahriar, a genuine middle order batsman, was turned into a makeshift opener by the selectors in order to keep his place in the side. It turned out to be a bad decision in the end so far, especially in the one dayers as his one day batting averages suggest. His only positive point is that he has a much better Test match average as an opener than in the one dayers.

Number 4 - Shahriar Hossain, a genuine opener, and a hero of the World Cup 1999, he has always struggled to score big against the top test teams, but there is no question about his temperament or his responsibility for the national team, unlike some other openers. He may not be as fit in mentally or physically as shown the last time that he played, but he certainly has the ability, that's for sure.

Number 5 - Hannan Sarkar, another genuine opener, but has struggled to understand how the one day games are played. Sometimes his lack of better technique proves that he should not have come this far, but other times he does not show it - and scores a fifty or so runs in the process. And yet, he was never quite a regular in the team. So far, his Test match batting averages are better than his one day average, but the only thing that is in his favor is his age, like most of his team mates.

Number 6 - Moniruzzaman, an opening batsman in domestic cricket, as well as a veteran compared to the average age of the Bangladesh team, but he is long overdue to get a call into the national camp. With so many openers in the helm, it remains to be seen whether he is chosen to be in the 15 member team or not.

I think Hannan will be sent in the U23 Srilanka tour. Rokon will be used in middle order. Shahriar got a chance to battle with Ash in the ODI opener spot. Golla is pretty much guranteed.

It will be real interesting to see the fate of Moniruzzaman. He scored the highest in the Dhaka league. However that means nothing in the international level.

Shahriar has good shot in the test opening position as Golla's partner.

Bidyut, Golla and Muniruzzaman are the legitimate openers. Ashraful and Rokon should play in the middle order and Hannan should be shot.
