A creditworthy performance from a nightwatchman. This should be regarded positively. Ashraful, Aftab and Bashar can learn from him. A good batting lesson.

Bouring or not.... Bd needs a batsmen like him...he not only scored 100 runs but also batted 300 balls....thats 50 overs...

Don't forget... that few months back... BD's tail-end batting was equally annoying to every opponent that BD played. As much as the other teams were annoyed with it... we were simply proud of our Tail-end batting. Simple reason... because they did a great job for their country. Same goes for Gillespi here...he really did great job with the bat and all the discredits to BD bowling for not being able to stop him.

I suggest you re-think about the title of this thread and maybe re-think about your observations on Gill as well...

Yeah, Gillispie for BD and Rafiq for West indies.

But Rafiq was lot more agressive than Gillispie. This guy took 300 deliveries to score his ton which is of course worthy for his team.

Annoying!! wow! Test cricket is suppose to be boring and annoying in pitches like this otherwise, humiliating defeat looms around the corner.

Gillespie 102 not out. Ash (Bd most talented batsman) 6. not even considering the 1st two innings. The gap will only widen. It was thrilling and as well as exciting to see Ash trying to check if hayden was in the game or not.

Lets see: Gillespie 102 not out. Bashar (Bd's best batsman 9(8)) how exciting it was to see bashar bat those 8 balls, wow!! A true champion. Knowing farely well why the fielding change was done before his marvelous shots. Yes, shots not shot. 1st test, 1st innings ended in similar fashion. And the runout....

Shall I go down the list? Don't provoke me.

Hats off to Gillespie for such a gritty performance.

As someone else said in another thread (sorry, forgot who it was), Gillespie should be given Bangladeshi citizenship and made to be a part of our team.

a bowler who avarages 15 in test cricket scored a century against us. he showed great temperment. he did not play shots, just hang in there and scored the knock. our batsman should learn from it.

Gellispie will remember bangladesh rest of his life.

annoying? in what sense?

Is that because
he didn't give a chance to our bowlers?
he defended 72% of the balls frustrating bowlers and fans?

Please read the article on cricinfo on JG. He averages 25 in his last 20 or so innings. In a sense Aftab's 6 in JG's over in Cardiff knocked him out of Aus team and now we compensated it by reviving his career presenting him with his maiden test 100.

Yes, a no.9 batsman scored a century against us. Yes, we had our chances to prevent this from happening but did not capatalize. And yes, it is embarassing, to say the least. But you really have to hand it to the guy. Batting for 6 hours, and facing 295 balls is no small feat. It takes real guts and determination to stick it out there for so long - and his performance should only be lauded.

It is no big secret that Gillespie prides himself on his defence - one commentator jokingly said during last years Ashes that Gillespie would rather get our leg before, than get bowled. Today he played good balls with a dead bat, waited for the opportunity, and smashed bad balls through mid-off/cover for boundaries. Every ball that drifted down leg side was promptly glanced down to fine/square leg for a couple. Gillespie really values his wicket, as do most Aussie tail-enders thesedays (even McGrath shakes his head in disgust every time he gets outs - such is the current state of Australian cricket).

And this is the difference between Australia and the rest of the world. If you bat sensibly in Test cricket, you will surely win alot more games than if you bat spectacularly (hint hint - Mohammad Ashraful & Co.) This is something our batsman (Rajin Saleh aside) can learn from (although I'm not too sure that they will in a hurry). Those of you chastising Gillespie's innings - sure, it wasn't overly entertaining watching Gillespie bat today (or yesterday for that matter), but he really did hand us a lesson in the art of Batting. You need to look no further than the scoreboard to realise this.

He was more frustrating than anything... but his determination to occupy the crease got very irritating, so much that even Ricky Ponting lost concentration.

Don't forget even Saqlain Mushtaq scored an unbeaten century against New Zealand. >>scorecard

Yeah right... if only two of our batsmen (I don't care who... ANYONE) played like Gillespie did, we would probably still be batting and not in this position we are now.

Gillespie's batting did not annoy me at all. What annoyed me the most are, batting performances from our so-called talented batsmen, poor attack (bowling and field setting) that allowed him to bat for 425 balls, and this thread.

It's a no brainer dude, Habibul Bashar is by far the most annoying batsman to watch. Luckily for us, he doesn't last very long. Mitigating factor: Bashar running after the ball can be kind of comical on occasion.
