Default Asian Games qualifying hockey

Asian Games qualifying hockey from May 11 in Dhaka.
Bangladesh meet Indonesia on opening day
http://independent-bangladesh.com/ne...52006sp.htm#A5

Bangladesh will take on Indonesia in their opening match of the 15th Asian Games qualifying round hockey tournament on May 11 at 4pm.
Two matches will take place on the inaugural day with Sri Lanka facing Singapore in the first match at 2 pm.
The ten-day tournament will be held at the newly laid astro-turf of Moulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium.
Eight nations divided into two groups are taking part in the meet. In fact nine teams were scheduled to take part in the championship. Tajikistan withdrew their team at the last moment on Tuesday.
The top six teams will join six seeded teams in the 15th Asian Games to be held in Doha in September, this year.
The participating teams are (group wise):
Group A: Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Indonesia.
Group B: Hong Kong, Oman, Chinese Taipei and Oman.
India, Pakistan, South Korea, Malaysia, China and Japan have been placed directly into the Doha Games.
Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) has almost completed necessary works to hold the third biggest ever hockey tournament in Bangladesh after the Asia Cup in 1985 and Prime Minister's Gold Cup in 1998.
The BHF has roped in Jamuna Bank as the sponsor of the tournament.
The sponsor would provide Tk 10 lakh out of total budget of Taka 16 lakh. This was disclosed by Shamsul Bari, general secretary of BHF, to reporters on Wednesday.
The BHF general secretary informed that an inter-ministerial meeting with State Minister for Youth and Sports M Fazlur Rahman in the chair will be held today at 10 am seeking cooperation from concerned authorities to make the tournament a success.
He said that the preparation of Bangladesh national team was going in full swing at the BKSP. The team management is expected to announce the final squad today.
Hong Kong, who will be the first team to reach Dhaka on May 10, and Iran have already sent their players' list to BHF.
The group league matches will end on May 16. There will be no game on May 17.
The two semifinals and play-off matches for final standing will take place on May 18. The final will take place on May 19 at 3.30 pm.

Check this story:
"The Sri Lankan team, which was reportedly coming here by road, will reach the capital Thursday, the opening day of the meet."
http://www.fieldhockey.com/

Unbelievable. national team travelling thousand miles to play a tournament by road in this day and age. I am sure they will be one tired team in the tourney. Just think about the journey back if they don't qualify.

Indonesia didn't come I guess. Thats why BD played Taipe. Good win but I would like to see a larger margin. Thanks Miraz bhai for the score.

Though the tourney consisted of the weaker teams, it is good to see that bd hockey players are still doing good and fighting hard. Congrats ...
