DROID RAZR MAXX/Bionic wifi hotspot clarification
I think some users mistook my reference to Droid Razr/Bionic wifi hotspot battery life the same as using an external wifi network. They are 2 totally different features!
Using wifi @ home or office or a wifi-hotspot like Starbucks or the mall on a Droid Razr Maxx or other Razr/Bionic variants or even other Motorola droid phones has no impact on battery as far as I know.
But Droid Razr is ITSELF a wifi hotspot. So if you are travelling and on a data plan (I think mostly applicable in U.S.) you can turn your Droid Razr into a wi-fi modem/router that you can connect up to 8 devices wirelessly and use internet. This is true for all motorola droid phones since the DROID X2 that came out over a year ago. The Razr/Bionic class phones are just capable of connecting more devices being 4G-LTE (10 mbps+ speed). When we use that as wifi-hotspot on the road we plug it to the car charger. Otherwise no issue on battery life.
Disclaimer: I personally do not use the DROID series phones (my wife has one). They r too expensive for my taste. But I do test interfacing with them via IT systems for a living ;-) .

going to buy this (DROID RAZR MAXX) GSM version, with $ 700 including the cover. Is it worth this money??
Config [Motorola-Razr-Maxx-8-GB-WiFi - 3g-black] doesn't look so great ...iPhone 4$ is even less than that. Yes, Maxx has the battery life much better than iPhone..

LTE is entirely separate and different then CDMA/GSM. LTE uses the 700Mhz spectrum, while GSM/CDMA uses 850Mhz to 2100Mhz. Cluster or ZS can confirm. Which phone is this? In the US, some of the CDMA phones also contain a GSM radio but is disabled like in the RAZR.

DROID Razr Maxx

From what I know so far VZW has enabled 4 devices with GSM capability through a software update (as of June, 2012) which are - Droid Razr, Droid Razr Maxx, Droid 4, and HTC Rezound. All are LTE Android phones in U.S. markets.
The DROID Razr Maxx is a CDMA phone (with LTE) and can be used with GSM network through that software update. You can, of course, swap the SIM card with a local variant to get a cheaper rate than VZW's global feature, especially if it is not one of the 150 countries covered in Global Plan. Eventually this will cover most of the globe thx to ODI platform with Vodaphone and China Mobile but as of now BD is not in that coverage.
Motorola also offers the Motorola RAZR Maxx but its not a DROID and no LTE. Instead I think it uses HSPA+ .. claims to be 4G .. sorry couldn't resist the jab ;-) . Spec for that Moto Razr Maxx GSM will look something like below:
Hope this helps .
I'm not an expert on DROID use outside U.S. (will be testing my wife's phone when we are out of country this Fall) so if someone else have used them internationally feel free to comment here.

Yeah LTE is totally IP based . Unfortuantely it is not available everywhere within U.S. yet so in locations outside major metro areas LTE phones switch back to the 3G networks. In case of VZW (and Sprint) its the regular CDMA 3G network. I guess in case of AT&T or T-Mobile it will switch to their GSM 3G network.

No way.
Even if you project the back of the phone's image on the front of it (james bond style) to give it a transparent feeling, there is still no way to make it this thin.
My guess is that in the future, you will get a bendable soft phone before you get anything like this.

Depends on a lot of things. Are you going for contract or unlocked phones? What is your budget range?

go with samsungg galaxy nexus from google without contract $400 + tax.. its a great phone. Battery probably doesn't last as long, i usually run out of battery when I am on call working 30 hours straight..
it has near field communication, so you can do all that cool tapping thing that galaxy s3 can do. I pay for grocery with my phone.
and it doesn't look bad either, so many ppl commented how sexy my phone was...they always ask if it is "galaxy", well it is, but i think they mean if it was SIII, i have to educate them a little. I think the phone looks a little more sexier in my hand... that's usually my reply to ppl.

Only disadvantage i see is picture quality with the flash on.
But I would love to get this one, this is super cool.

I use Blackberry Bold. It's the best phone I've used to date. I don't know what I'll do when RIM goes out of business as I'm not switching to iPhone. Then again, BB10 is a touch screen device which totally sucks. I just can't live without the keyboard anymore. Specially from a business user's perspective, just can't type fast enough without that response to my fingers as I type.

I am kind of disappointed with my S2 lately. Even after rooting it and using CPU tuner to boost battery life, seems like I cannot go a whole day without charge. This may be one faulty battery though, since it was not like this 6 months ago.

Thing is android itself is crap at battery management and these CPU/battery tuners are just band aid solutions that never fixes underlying problems.
I had different issues with my SGS, never ending lags, crappy GPS, kies was horrible the list goes on. The phone starts to heat up if you have any more than 3 apps open and my old 3GS can handle well over 10 apps in background.
News like this turned me off Android completely: http://www.pcworld.com/article/25730...el_claims.html
Makes it look like its nothing more than a cheap iOS imitation after all.
