Default Shipping Stuff From Dhaka

Hi. Has anyone shipped large quantities of stuff (mostly clothes, shoes etc) from Dhaka to Europe (more specifically Holland) recently? If so, I was wondering if you can help me. SInce I'll be moving to Holland for quite some time, I was thinking of taking a lot of my stuff. What would be the most cost-effective yet really safe way to ship it over there? Speed isn't a problem, I have a month and a half to get all the stuff over there, but cost and relaibility are important factors.

Would appreciate any help.

If you contact your travel agent during your booking they could arrange upto 35 kg (actually 40 kg) to fly with you. I know this is possible as myself did it in 2004. My wife and I not only bring all our stuff but virtually 2yrs spice from Bangladesh.
If you need still more, go to GPO and ask whether they have sea mail service as I think FEDEX and DHL would be too expensive for large volume. But please check.

If you are flying British Airways or Singapore Airlines, they have an "unaccompanied baggage" service run by their cargo systems. Its cheaper than paying the fine and carrying excess luggage, and works sth like sending the baggage a few days before your flight, and then collecting it after you reach your destination. Onek malamal thakle its a convenient system, cheaper than DHL or FedEx, more secure than GPO. Otherwise you could go to a packing/shipping agent and have cartons worth of stuff shipped out to your destination which'll take a long time.

I used Bangladesh Postal Service several times. Surprisingly they delivered on time all the time. However, I had bad experience in opposite direction though (overseas to Bangladesh). It will be most reliable and fast if you can ship them from Cantonment post office. All overseas mails and parcels are accumulated in Dhaka Cantonment post office and then they are shipped to the airport. Only problem with postal service I can see now is Biman - they ship everything by Biman (and its affiliates) and recently all the stories about Biman are not good

Ok, another problem

I've recently been given a brand new Sony Bravia Flat Screen TV as a gift(yes, lucky me). I really don't want to leave this back in Dhaka and I want to take it with me to Holland. It's a 26 inch tv and weighs 22kg.

I'll be flying first class by Biman till Dubai and then take the KLM flight to Amsterdam.

What will be the best way to take the tv with me?I think the best way would be to take it with me as part of my luggage. Shipping it by DHL or any other parcel service would be really expensive as well as risky.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to help?

From economical point of view, taking a tv from Bangladesh to Amsterdam doesn't make sense, unless there is some sentimental value attached with that tv that cannot be translated to economy.

If you take it as part of your plane luggage, you may have to sacrify other important stuff that you could have been carrying with you. Moreover, if not packaged properly, there is also a chance of damaging the tv.

Looks like selling the TV in bangladesh and buying another one (old or new based on budget)in Amsterdam may be another option you can consider.

Opposite end question: what is the cheapest mean of sending a box (12"x18"x6") of 3lb weight to bangladesh from usa? I tried DHL and FedEx website and they give estimates over $100+.

any idea?
