Man Utd move interests Gudjohnsen

Eidur Gudjohnsen has struggled to make an impact at Barcelona

Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen admits he would be interested in a move to Manchester United.

The 29-year-old former Chelsea star has struggled after an £8m move to the Nou Camp last summer and the Icelander has now been linked with United.

He said: "If I leave then my idea would be to return to British football.

"A perfect choice for me will be a club that plays in the Champions League. Obviously Manchester United is a club that fits into that category."
He added: "I joined Barcelona to be part of the club's triumphs but it is not easy for me when you look at the club's forward line and see all the big names there.

"Each minute has been a special test for me but to sit on the bench is not the most desirable experience for a player.

"I still don't think I have failed in Spain, but perhaps I have not totally won the confidence of the coach."

Gudjohnsen is under contract until 2009 and could be available for around £8m - a figure that could interest United as the Premiership champions weigh up their striking options for next season.

I'm not so sure about Eidur Gudjohnsen, he's too old and hasn't that impressive of a career. Last I checked we can get Barcelona's Javier Saviola on a free transfer, which is better than nothing. There's also rumour that United is interested in Sampdoria's Fabio Quagliarella.

Real Madrid wins Spanish league title with comeback win over Mallorca

MADRID, Spain (AP) - Real Madrid came from behind to win its 30th Spanish league title Sunday, beating Mallorca 3-1 and edging defending champion FC Barcelona on head-to-head results.
Substitute Jose Antonio Reyes, who came on for David Beckham, scored two goals and Mahamadou Diarra added the other for Madrid, which won its first league title in four seasons.
Reyes scored in the 67th minute and added another in the 83rd, three minutes after Diarra's header. Fernando Varela scored for Mallorca in the 17th.
Both Madrid and Barcelona, which beat Gimnastic Tarragon 5-1, finish the season with 76 points.
Beckham, who came off in the 66th minute after appearing to re-aggravate a left ankle sprain, watched nervously as Madrid rallied for the win before pointing up to his wife Victoria and friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, who were sitting in the stands.
Madrid ended its longest major trophy drought in 53 years with a lap of honour before throwing coach Fabio Capello into the air as the Italian won his second title as coach at Madrid. The other was in 1997.
Barcelona could only watch from the Nou Estadi as Madrid ended its hopes of a third straight league title.
Lionel Messi scored two goals and set up Carles Puyol for another. Ronaldinho curled in a free kick for his 21st goal of the season before Gianluca Zambrotta scored in injury time as Barcelona finished without a trophy for the first time in three seasons.

Reds launch new home kit

United have unveiled their new home kit ahead of the new season.

A giant image of the team in the new Nike-produced kit adorns the East Stand window at Old Trafford. The players will wear it for the first time during their first match of their Asia Tour against Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan later this month. - ManUtd.com

At first, I thought it's a bit boring, but now I really like it. The goalie kits look top notch.

Ya glow in the dark, same design as Liverpools new away kit. Talking about LFC, they've signed torres for 26.5mill, huge risk IMO for that price, and supposedly chasing Heinze which would be a shock, as transfers between man u and lfc is something of a rarity due to the fierce rivalry.

BBC says the Torres deal is believed to be around £20m. He is an excellent player, and some might say that is too much. But if you look at what Spurs paid for Darren Bent, Liverpool have got a bargain, IMO. I think if it was around £26.5m, then that would have been too much.

On the Heinze issue, I don't mind him leaving, but definitely would hate to see him at another Premiership club...

I've seen it close up, on the Man Utd Store site...it does indeed look great, with that mesh-type material.

On the Chelsea kit...

Fee was undisclosed at the end, but Garcia went for 4.5mill to them so ended up around 20 mill, even though his get out clause fee was around 26.5mill. Whatever it was, alot of money and he needs to justify it by banging in 20+ plus goals a season.

Oh yeah, forgot about the Luis Garcia transfer.

Yeah, he definitely needs to be in that scoring range, I'm not sure he'll be able to make the transition well from La Liga to the Premiership - judging by past Spanish to English transfers, such as Baptista, Reyes, Morientes, Luque (massive flop), but then again, there is Cesc Fabregas.

Man Utd close in on striker Tevez

Tevez played a big part in keeping West Ham in the Premiership last season

West Ham striker Carlos Tevez is set to join Manchester United, BBC sports editor Mihir Bose understands.

The discussions are under way and Tevez may move on loan or permanently to the Premier League champions.

Tevez, 23, is currently on international duty with Argentina in the Copa America in Venezuela.
West Ham have said they want to keep him after he helped them survive in the top flight last season but doubts have remained over his Hammers future.

"I understand talks have been going on for several weeks now," added Bose.

"Manchester United are certainly very keen on Carlos Tevez but they are very complicated talks because of the nature of the loan arrangement he has at West Ham.

Tevez for United? He's definitely best out of all the mediocre strikers linked to United. I hope we get him.

Tevez's United move in turmoil

West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson insists Carlos Tevez cannot leave without the consent of the club. Widespread reports claim Manchester United are close to signing Tevez on a two-year loan deal, with the Argentina striker likely to seal a move to Old Trafford in the next 24 hours.

However, West Ham have now moved to play down the possibility of the 23-year-old leaving Upton Park this summer by stating he still has three years to run on his contract.

Magnusson fully expects Tevez, who is currently on international duty playing in the Copa America, to return to West Ham ahead of next season. "Carlos Tevez is a registered West Ham United player, contracted to the club until June 2010," he said in a statement on the club's official website.

"There is no agreement with West Ham United for Carlos Tevez to leave the club and we expect him to return in time for next season's preparations. "No decision on his future can be reached without the agreement of West Ham United."

Any deal which takes Tevez to Manchester United will be under scrutiny from the Premier League and they will likely back West Ham in their stance.

Since we seem to be on the subject of kits of other clubs, it's gonna be weird seeing Fulham and Aston Villa with Nike kits, and Derby County with an adidas kit.

I think WHU should just zip it and be happy to be still in the premiership.

Tevez cleared to sign for Man Utd

Tevez (right) could soon join Patrice Evra at Old Trafford

West Ham have revealed they have reached agreement for Carlos Tevez to leave Upton Park and complete his protracted move to Manchester United.

The settlement ends the threat of High Court action between West Ham and Tevez's representative Kia Joorabchian.
West Ham will receive a £2m fee for Tevez's registration and the move has been approved by the Premier League.

The 23-year-old Argentine striker is understood to have passed a medical and trained with United on Friday morning.

Report: BBC Radio Five Live's Nigel Adderley

All sides were keen for the matter to be settled ahead of a proposed court date on 22 August and the closure of the transfer window at the end of the month.

Tevez's switch had stalled over who will be paid the transfer fee.

The Premier League and West Ham said the Hammers should receive the fee but companies MSI and Just Sports Inc, which belong to Joorabchian, said they owned the striker's economic rights.

Tevez arrived with fellow countryman Javier Mascherano at West Ham last August, and his outstanding form towards the end of last season kept Alan Curbishley's side in the Premiership.

But there was always a shadow hanging over the deal after West Ham were fined £5.5m over the transfers of Tevez and Mascherano.

The club was found guilty of acting improperly and withholding vital documentation over the duo's ownership, but crucially avoided a points deduction.

West Ham said in a statement: "The settlement ends the current litigation taking place between the respective parties and provides for a £2m fee to be paid to West Ham.

"The agreement confirms that West Ham do have a valid player's contract with Carlos Tevez and hold the registration of the player. This will be released once the agreed fee has been paid to the club.

"The terms of the settlement are consistent with undertakings given by West Ham United to the Premier League and the rules of The Football Association."

West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson added: "I am obviously pleased that we have finally reached the end of this saga through agreement and common sense.

"All parties involved can now move on and truly focus on the new season."
The Premier League has also given their approval, clearing the way for Sir Alex Ferguson to complete the drawn-out Tevez deal.

A statement read: "The decision of the board, having received leading counsel's opinion, is that the agreement reached is compliant with the rules of the Premier League and consistent with the undertakings given by West Ham United to the Premier League board at various times since 27 April 2007.

"This will lead to the cancellation of Tevez's registration, thereby releasing him to join another club in due course."

And a statement issued on behalf of Joorabchian, MSI Group Limited and Just Sport Inc, said: "We are delighted that a settlement has been reached between all parties to secure Carlos Tevez's move from West Ham United to Manchester United.

"The agreement brings an end to the legal proceedings started by us against West Ham United in the High Court last week.

"Our primary concern has always been to resolve this issue amicably and to allow Carlos to pursue his ambition to play for Manchester United.

"Carlos is looking forward to being a Manchester United player and his ambition is close to being achieved."

Great news for all United fans!! Not so great for haters

What text?

It's a two-year loan deal for £10 million, with the option of buying him parmanently for a further £20 million.
