Manchester United beat a Europe XI to celebrate the European Union's 50th anniversary and of the Red Devils' 50 years in European competition.
United were 4-1 up by the interval thanks to a Wayne Rooney double, Wes Brown's close-range finish and Cristiano Ronaldo's stunning free-kick.
Florent Malouda's left-footed shot made it 2-1, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed a penalty with United leading 3-1.
El-Hadji Diouf came off the bench to score a header and an impudent penalty.
The match, watched by a 74,343 crowd, raised ÂŁ1.25m for charity.
Ronaldo wants to stay at Man Utd Cristiano Ronaldo wants to stay at Manchester United for "many years".
The 22-year-old, who has a contract until 2010, has been in fine form for United this season and has repeatedly been linked to Real Madrid.
"It is a good sign to know I have so many clubs interested in me, such as Real Madrid," said the Portugal winger. "It means that I am valued.
"But I am very happy where I am and I hope to stay at Manchester United for many years."
Ronaldo is currently away on international duty with the Portuguese squad ahead of their Euro 2008 qualifier with Serbia on Wednesday.
He continued his brilliant form by scoring twice as his national side beat Belgium 4-0 on Saturday.
Ronaldo has scored 16 Premiership goals this season, with a further two in the FA Cup.
When asked if he was the best player in the world at the moment, he stated: "The United players are by my side - but of course I believe I am one of the best."
United want the player to sign a new deal, which will take him up to 2012.
"I have a good contract, in financial terms, but what really matters to me is to show my best form," added Ronaldo.
This is a great news! It's the same player who had that infamous incident with Rooney, wanted to leave England not long ago and got booed all season. Now he's best buddies with Rooney (if you watch the games), he's matured, his consistent form has lifted United on countless ocassions. In fact he's one of the best players in the world right now. Well done Sir Alex for convincing him to stay.
I'm disappointed because we are not a rich club and this time we were hoping for some cup-glory... but the dream ended in a nightmare and there will hardly be another chance... but that's football and almost ever it's the rich clubs who win!
A scintillating display by Manchester United saw them tear Roma apart to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Michael Carrick curled in United's opener and Alan Smith fired home before Wayne Rooney added their third of the night, finishing off a superb move.
Cristiano Ronaldo fired into the bottom corner and slid home a Ryan Giggs cross before Carrick smashed home a sixth.
Roma replied through Daniele De Rossi before Patrice Evra's low shot rounded off United's amazing 8-3 aggregate win.
There have been many memorable performances at Old Trafford down the years but few can compare to the display Sir Alex Ferguson's men put on here.
The scuffles between fans outside the ground before kick-off were quickly forgotten once the game got underway, with United looking to overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg.
Both sides showed attacking intentions in the opening minutes with Roma's Francesco Totti going closest with a fierce shot that fizzed past Edwin van der Sar's right-hand post.
But it was United who grabbed control of the tie with three goals in eight first-half minutes.
Carrick opened the scoring on 11 minutes when he picked up the ball from Ronaldo and bent the ball past a stationary Doni.
Six minutes later it was 2-0 when Gabriel Heinze and Giggs combined before the Welshman flighted a perfect pass into the path of Smith, who finished with aplomb to net his first goal for United since November 2005.
Rooney got in on the act soon after, timing his run superbly to slot home Giggs' low cross after the Italian side had been completely torn apart down the right flank.
A shell-shocked Roma tried to respond and almost pulled a goal back when Philippe Mexes headed a David Pizarro free-kick wide.
But the visitors' attempts to find a way back into the game only succeeded in leaving themselves more vulnerable to United's pacey attack.
Carrick went close when he headed a Giggs corner at Doni but could not react quickly enough when the ball bounced straight back at him.
And Ronaldo did make it 4-0 before half-time with a precise finish into the bottom corner after the Roma defence had made the mistake of inviting him to shoot.
United were quite simply superb, and they did not let up after the break either.
Ronaldo, who was in sublime form, slid home a low Giggs' cross for number five before Carrick's piledriver made it 6-0 on the hour mark.
Roma did get one goal back through De Rossi's neat finish on the turn but the game was long since up for the Italian side.
It was exhibition stuff for Ferguson's side by the end and they got the final word they richly deserved when Evra's low shot beat Doni.
Like United's first six goals it was a fine finish and completed a magnificent victory, their biggest in Europe since they beat Irish side Waterford on their way to winning the 1968 European Cup.
United will take on AC Milan or Bayern Munich in the last four as they look to book their place in this year's final in Athens on 23 May.
Xavier, I love Italy, I've travelled there, I love your people, food, landscapes, landmarks, history, everything. But I am sorry to say I was very hurt by the way Man Utd fans were indiscriminately beaten by your police during the first-leg match. It had my blood boiling and I was praying that we would THRASH that worthless excuse of a team called Roma.

Why do you mix Roma club with the behaviour of the police? You can be sure that 90% of Roma fans hated that violent attack...
if you knew Roma fans you would see that we are as passionate and loyal to our team as you Bangladeshis are about your cricket team.
Yesterday we were trying to live our dream but we suffered a deepest humiliation, stg like how you felt when you lost to Canada in WC2003... we don't deserve that mate, and please don't hate us for the behaviour of the police... we just despise that as you do! Cheers...
I don't hate your team and I'm not saying your fans had anything to do with it. I am angry at your police, who are supposed to protect people not beat them bloody senseless. I wouldn't want Roma fans to be beaten up when they came to OT, so I wanted Man Utd to seek revenge on the pitch. Justice is served.

That's your opinion... but I rest my case: what police did is not stg that Roma (club or fans) are responsible for, it's a matter of social injustice.
But if you wanted a "revenge on the pitch" for it... you just had it, but I would say that it's not someting that violent policemen are caring about, but only us fans... 'bye.

That's football (or sports in general), fans can only rejoice or suffer according to circumstances... thist was a nightmarish match for us but now I'm curious about that: yesterday Carrick and Cristiano Ronaldo looked like Maradona and Pelè, scoring amazing goals each time they kicked the ball... I'm really waiting to see if they will keep on playing like that again!
Ronaldo has been playing like that all season. I think he's the best footballer in the world right now. He plays with spirit, pace and skill, passes accurately, takes brilliant freekicks, creates chances, and of course scores goals. He's ever improving.
Carrick's goals were simply stunning. He's worked very hard this season and proved the skeptics wrong who thought he was overrated and overpaid. He's been a great purchase for us and makes me think we can do without Hargreaves, who Bayern Munich is so reluctant to let go.
